A Healthy Healthcare Sector, a Key Foundation of Economic Growth
Israel’s National Program for Economic Growth (NPEG), established and run by the Growth Administration (the Ministry of Economy and Industry’s (MOEI) executive body responsible for implementing the NPEG), is a multi-year plan to reignite Israel’s economy and ensure growth for years to come.
The program is built around renowned Harvard professor Michael Porter’s Cluster theory, where, in a nutshell, a cluster is the group of businesses and organizations that operate and compete in and around a specific area of economic activity.
In this post we’ll take a closer look at the makeup and goals of the Life Sciences & Health Cluster, a.k.a. the Healthtech Cluster.
The HealthTech Cluster groups together all of Israel’s economic activity in the area, including, but not limited to the pharmaceutical, medical device, biotech, healthcare services, and digital health sectors.
Managing the cluster on behalf of the Growth Administration is Ms. Hadas klein.
Hadas, a well-regarded psychologist, organizational consultant, and a lieutenant colonel (reserve) in the IDF, brings with her a wealth of experience in building healthcare innovation infrastructure, gained with her prior employer, HealthIL. Hadas specializes in forging inter-organizational collaborations and inner-harmony amongst her three beautiful children, Yarden, Alon, and Rotem 😊.
The Health Cluster encompasses “entities that develop and provide technologies, services, and products in the context of physical and mental health,” ranging from medical technology and device companies to pharma firms, universities, research institutes, and, of course, the healthcare organizations and institutions themselves (e.g. hospitals, HMOs).
To bring about positive economic results, including growth in jobs and salaries, expanded entrepreneurship and innovation, greater investment, and recession resilience, Hadas and her colleagues at the Growth Administration focus on:
• Collecting and analyzing data using custom AI developed in-house.
• Cluster development and advancement.
• Encouraging investments in their clusters aided by the government and multi-sector partnerships.
• Facilitating market penetration for cluster businesses and organizations.
