Yesterday at #ClimateWeekNYC , Shaheen H., from The Solutions Project, spoke on an inspiring panel with climate justice leaders: 💚 Darryl Molina Sarmiento Communities for a Better Environment 💚 KD Chavez from Climate Justice Alliance 💚 Dwaign Tyndal from Alternatives for Community & Environment (ACE) 💚 Courtenay A. Barton, MPA from UNITE-EJ - the EPA Thriving Communities Western States National regranting award winner, partnered with CJA, Chisholm Legacy, NDN Collective and governed by the Fund for Frontline Power. They shared powerful stories from the frontlines, reminding us that climate justice is racial justice. Our next grantee spotlight for #LatinxHeritageMonth is dedicated to the hardworking staff and members of Comite Civico del Valle (CCV)! CCV was founded on the principle, “informed people build healthy communities" and continues to incorporate that mission statement in all partnerships, research studies, and civic engagements comprised by their organization. With the Imperial County having the lowest rate of EV chargers per capita of all 58 counties in California, recently, they successfully launched an initiative for much-needed Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, locating their first charger in the City of Brawley, CA. Their current goal is to install 40 publicly accessible charging stations in order to produce more local green jobs, boost tourism, create STEM education opportunities, and reduce harmful air pollution so that they can achieve EV Equity and Environmental Justice for disadvantaged communities of the Salton Sea California Border Region. We applaud CCV's commitment to advancing ambitious climate goals while also making sure marginalized communities always have a seat at the decision-making table when it comes to creating climate solutions that will impact the health of current residents, as well as future generations.

This #LatinxHeritageMonth, we want to highlight some of our Latinx staff and member-led grantee partners that are making huge strides toward combating climate change in their communities. Up first is People Organizing to Demand Environmental and Economic Rights (PODER)! PODER's mission is to organize with Latinx immigrant families and youth to put into practice people-powered solutions that are locally based, community-led and environmentally just. They strongly believe everyday people can shape their neighborhoods and economies and they work in several key areas to ensure their communities in San Francisco are strong and sustainable including: ✔️ Civic Engagement & Immigration Rights ✔️ Community Organizing & Building Power ✔️ Intergenerational Leadership Development ✔️ Solidarity Economy & Climate Resilience Visit their page to support their incredible work and help them advance their community vision!

They discussed the importance of amplifying frontline innovation and Gloria shared her bold vision of channeling resources to frontline communities, emphasizing that these communities know what’s best for their needs and are advancing climate solutions that benefit everyone. Today, we honor Women’s Equality Day, a time to reflect on the progress we’ve made and the work still needed to achieve gender equality. This day not only marks the anniversary of the 19th Amendment’s ratification, which granted women the right to vote in the United States, but it also is a powerful reminder of the strides women have made and the ongoing efforts required to ensure equality in every aspect of life. So much of the work we do focuses on funding and amplifying climate change solutions created and led by solutionaries of every age, race, and gender. By working to ensure women’s voices are heard and represented in every sphere of society, celebrating their achievements, and recognizing their contributions, we can all work together to create a more inclusive world. #WomensEqualityDay #Empowerment #GenderEquality #WomenInLeadership #SupportWomen #EqualityForAll
