This week, Steven Haden (he/him), founder of Envision:You, attended #NatCon24 and had the pleasure of discussing the importance of providing culturally affirming care to LGBTQ individuals, who often confront significant mental health disparities and limited access to services. This discussion coincided with a challenging year marked by the introduction of over 500 anti-LGBTQ bills in states across the country. In the face of relentless attacks on the community, it is crucial that the behavioral healthcare system stands ready to support those experiencing profound trauma. Spirit day is an annual day of recognition and reflection for the LGBTQIA2 community, and especially LGBTQIA2 youth who still experience bullying and discrimination. Here at Spirit we stand with all LGBTQIA2 people and aim to spread awareness. Here are some things you can do to support this issue: - Attend a local Spirit Day parade to show your support for the LGBTQIA2 community. - Lend support to someone you know and be a safe space for a friend. We can be there for each other and show empathy and increase belonging. - Advocate for LGBTQIA2 rights, speak up against maltreatment, show people why it’s wrong.
