"Anytime we can play a role in helping our veterans, it is very fulfilling. We designed this building around the conversations we had with veterans and their wishes to present the best possible building to enhance their quality of life," said Architect Shane Larsen. The new Honor Neighborhood at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home is officially open! This expansion provides 25,000 sq ft of space for veterans, including private rooms, common areas & more. #Nebraska #Veterans https://lnkd.in/gJ3YfmTq

Did you know that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has proposed a rule aiming to streamline preservation efforts for historic properties under the NHPA? If accepted, this rule would impact federal historic preservation efforts for USACE, particularly in regards to Department of Defense (DOD) projects and other governmental undertakings. Check out our newest blog post for the full details: https://lnkd.in/gTVez-yQ #CRM #culturalresources #historicproperties #section106 #NHPA #culturalresourcemanagement #USACE

From the sea, Three Block War, Force Design…. BL - many effective and more efficient means are available, other than conducting Amphibious Assault operations, to repel advancing forces The technological cabilities to establish ‘advanced naval stations’, leveraging archaic Amphip displacement hulled vessels, is the same condition as the repeating rifle / gatling gun did to colonial infantry formations…. Induced ‘Manuver Warfare’ into the ground combat side Sea Basing model of a ‘Iron Mountain’ Afloat is the same as those stationary on land …. Possible desired capability… An integrated ‘Objective Key Performace Parameter’ would appear to be Theater and Tactical level ‘Displaced Navy/MC Logistics’ supporting several ‘Seabased manuver warfare Ampibs’ that rapidly deploy ‘Self supporting Ampib Assault Forces’ that are no longer constrained to current ‘aluminum canoe technologies’ and inadequate armor for shore advancements
My former MEU CO Mark J. Desens lays out a well articulated response to yet another fundamentally flawed anti Force Design article. There is more to unpack with the critiques of Force Design, and more is coming.

Are Modular Homes the Future? The modular home isn't a new concept. Look at any long-term construction site, military complex, or industrial space, and you are likely to find a few. Could they also serve as the future homes for the rapidly growing urban populations? #modularhomes

"For the goal of a military should not be to buy platforms. The goal is to buy deterrence, the prevention of war. And the only way to deter wars is to be so clearly capable of winning them that no rival ever seeks to get its way through violence. ~ Christian Brose (The Kill Chain: Defending America in the Future of High-Tech Warfare) How do we get there? The DoD has flipped the old paradigm that industry waits on Congressional funds to build better systems. Now, commercial companies with dual-use technology are driving the cutting edge of capability. Now, "non-traditional" companies and start-ups are accelerating timelines by 5x or 10x. Now, the USSF responds with establishing its Commercial Space Office (COSMO) to open its marketplace to "buy before build." #buybeforebuild #cosmo #howwewin #innovation

Program Manager, former Surface Warfare Officer (nuclear), Volunteer tour guide USS Alabama Battleship Park, Board member Mobile, Alabama Chapter of the Navy League
Another excellent article from Ralph Soule! With respect to pricing a ship based on tonnage, after adjusting for inflation, the battleship USS Alabama (BB-60) cost about the same to build (in two years, no less!) as an Arleigh Burke destroyer does today even though the battleship is four times the displacement. The reason is that in the last century, warships were like steel safes. You could price them by the pound because price correlated very well with weight. In this century, warships are more like desktop computers. No one buys computers by the pound - and often price is inversely correlated with size and weight. No one should be surprised that a desktop computer costs much more than a safe of the same weight.
In a departure from my ship maintenance series (more to write about), I put up a new blog post on Navy lead warship schedule and cost estimates. This is the first post of a series that seeks to understand why they are “accuracy challenged.” https://lnkd.in/g9RV-Z_b

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has proposed removing Appendix C from their Regulatory Program’s permitting regulations and “instead follow the NHPA’s implementing regulations, developed and interpreted by the ACHP, relying on the flexibility in those regulations for Federal agency compliance with the steps of review.” Read more on the ACRAsphere now.
