For #WorldRefugeeDay, we've joined forces with LinkedIn Social Impact to advocate for hiring refugees through a skills-based hiring approach. Inspired by NHS England and Talent Beyond Boundaries’ refugee hiring program, we welcomed our first six Palestinian nurses in March 2022, with another four joining us recently. These nurses have become vital members of The Royal Marsden family, contributing not only technical skills, but cultural knowledge, empathy, and determination that enhance our ability to provide exceptional patient care. Prioritizing skills over degrees has helped us build a more globally minded team. Read more about our approach and the outcomes it’s driven here: https://bit.ly/4eohb8Y

🌟 What’s New? The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (#IRCC), has just announced the introduction of enhanced caregiver pilot programs aimed at supporting the incredible work of #caregivers coming from abroad. These programs are set to replace the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot, laying the groundwork towards establishing a permanent caregiver program. ✨ Key Highlights: 👉 The new pilot programs will grant caregivers Permanent Residence (#PR) upon arrival in Canada. 👉 Eligibility for these programs includes a minimum language level of 4 based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB), a high school diploma equivalent, recent and relevant work experience, and a full-time home care job offer. 🔍 Why is this Important? Caregivers play a crucial role in the lives of Canadian families by caring for children, seniors, and persons with disabilities. These new pathways ensure that caregivers have immediate access to PR status, can work for more flexible and reliable employers, and ultimately, secure a better future for themselves and their families. #CaregiversInCanada #ImmigrationCanada #PermanentResidence #CanadianImmigration #MetropolitanImmigrationServices

WHAT’S NEW CANADA? The Home Childcare Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot: Direct to Permanent Residence category are two caregiver pilot programs that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will reset the cap and start accepting applications for on January 1,2024. Applying as soon as possible is advised by the IRCC for interested and qualified candidates. Although the website indicates that there are still openings for the Home Support Worker Pilot in 2023, the ceiling of 1,000 online applications for the Home Child Care Provider Pilot in 2023 was achieved on April 14, 2023. Applicants with prior caregiving job experience are only eligible for these programs. The start dates of both pilot programs are June 17, 2024 respectively. By 2022, around 1,100 caregivers and their families will have made the move to permanent residence, demonstrating their popularity. Yesterday I spoke at the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation (Victorian Branch) Annual Delegates Conference about the work Talent Beyond Boundaries is doing to support refugee nurses and midwives to migrate for work. There are thousands of displaced healthcare workers around the world who need opportunities to rebuild their lives - all they need is the chance to get through the red tape. The ANMF, and union movement in general, is a key ally in the effort to support refugees to gain dignified work and safe migration pathways. We're working with ANMF to help refugee nurses, midwives and aged care workers to migrate to Australia with worker protections. A key challenge continues to be accessing registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency), which is particularly challenging for refugees who have had their healthcare careers interrupted by conflict, and may not have access to key documents. We need to come together as a sector on this - refugee organisations like SSI AMES Australia Talent Beyond Boundaries with health/aged sector employers, unions, government and regulators - to make sure refugees have a clear path for how to meet the regulation requirements needed to staff up our aged care homes, clinics and hospitals. With such a nursing workforce shortage it's an absolute imperative. 🏥 Thanks Libby Muir Lauren Palmer Annie Butler for your great work!! Photo credit: chris-hopkins.com.au

Good news for Canadian families & caregivers! Canada is making it easier for caregivers to become permanent residents right upon arrival, thanks to enhanced pilot programs replacing the existing Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots. What does this mean? Faster path to permanent residency for caregivers Expanded work options beyond private households Lower language requirements (CLB 4) Streamlined process for much-needed care workers to support Canadian families This change is a game-changer, especially considering: Over 9 million Canadians are expected to retire in the next 6 years, increasing demand for care Many senior caregivers (65 ) needing support themselves More women entering the workforce, increasing the need for childcare providers Let's welcome these caregivers with open arms and help them improve the lives of countless Canadians! 🇨🇦 #CANINGRESSimmigration #caregivers #immigration #canada #goodnews
