Former California Real Estate Commissioner; Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Counsel at Renewed Arts and Housing Foundation Inc.; and independent Consultant/Expert
https://lnkd.in/g5VmqTgY The posted article provides an excellent discussion of the value of managed temporary housing for unsheltered people, as part of a "suite of options" to help address homelessness, and as a first step toward more permanent housing. When the temporary housing is combined with case management, mental health and employment services, and health care (including treatment assistance for drugs and/or alcohol), it certainly appears that such housing can and does lead to some positive outcomes. #managedtemporaryhomes #tinyhomes4theunsheltered

There’s been much said about billions being spent on homelessness with little result. Please look beyond the headlines to discover the interventions are effective and point to a systemic issue: for every 10 people housed in San Diego County, 16 become homeless. Yes, we need to address mental health and substance use issues, but the bigger problem is the shortage of actual, attainable affordable housing where people can live while on their path to safety, stability and self-sufficiency. With a shortfall of 136,631 affordable rental homes, we need to prioritize affordable housing solutions. Addressing this issue supports our community's and fosters economic stability and growth. #AffordableHousing #InvisibleHomeless #SanDiego #CommunitySupport

Executive Director of Business & Operations at THE SALVATION ARMY Coos, Curry, & Northern Douglas Counties - South Coast Oregon..
I’ve been working in many different communities on solutions to these issues over the last decade … available, affordable housing is truly the solution for the unhoused- in Sacramento, Colorado Springs, Las Vegas, Spokane, and on the Oregon South Coast where I currently serve as well. However, it’s also true that we in the front lines get people “housing ready”, then find significant DEI barriers that keep people unhoused. (3x income requirements, evictions, legal issues, SUD, MH, discrimination, etc.). If we as a society want to see results - we should think about policies & funding that not only assist to get people off the streets - but also requirements to create more affordable housing, and remove barriers to housing. A more comprehensive approach “requiring” solutions for all three areas at once.

Did you know that homelessness is not only a housing problem but also a health problem? People who are homeless are more likely to suffer from physical and mental health issues, such as infections, injuries, chronic diseases, substance abuse, and depression. They are also less likely to have access to health care services, such as doctors, dentists, or therapists. They often face barriers such as a lack of identification, transportation, or insurance. They also face stigma and discrimination from some healthcare providers or institutions. Homelessness is not only a housing problem, it's also a health problem. That's why Noble Tree Foundation is committed to improving the health and well-being of people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. We provide them with housing and support that meets their health needs and preferences. We help them access healthcare services that are affordable, accessible, and respectful. We advocate for policies and practices that promote health equity and social justice for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Humanity. Support. Growth. #NobleTreeFoundation #homelessness #health #wellbeing #healthcare #equity #humanity #justice #support #growth #mentalhealth #housingcrisis #socialjustice

Effects of homelessness go beyond the individuals affected and extend to their families, communities, and society as a whole. Homelessness can lead to several physical and mental health challenges, including malnutrition, infectious diseases, trauma, and untreated medical conditions. It also exacerbates social isolation, stigma, and discrimination, further marginalizing already vulnerable populations. Additionally, homelessness imposes significant economic costs on society, including healthcare expenses, criminal justice involvement, and lost productivity. Let's work together to find solutions to end homelessness and support those affected by it. #EndHomelessness #SupportVulnerablePopulations
