5 things leaders do in complex times 1. Map and anticipate risk: In these complex and dynamic times, leaders need to constantly think ahead of the curve on how their businesses will be disrupted. They also need to set up systems that allow them to make sense of the immense amounts of data and use it to make the right decisions. 2. ⁠Embrace humility and inclusive listening: Sometimes all the information we need to make a decision is not present to us at the beginning — we need to find it. However, many of our societal structures have prioritized developing rebuttals and counterarguments rather than attentive listening. We need to relearn how to sit and connect with others, sometimes in silence, rather than bolstering our ego and making hasty decisions with imperfect information. 3. ⁠Foster empathy, openness and trust: Leaders need to be open to finding solutions that no one person could have come up with alone, drawing on collective wisdom. 4. ⁠Divide the problems into smaller parts: Complexity is a fact of our times, so it helps to understand complexity as a series of smaller problems that can (and must be) solved. 5. ⁠Build a culture of resilience and perseverance: It's important for leaders to possess the ability to engage and inspire those around them who may not initially share the same concerns. This capability to mobilize others amplifies their impact and cultivates a broader sense of responsibility and awareness across their teams and communities.

Lean Core Team: Build a streamlined and effective team with necessary roles filled by qualified individuals, avoiding the temptation to pick friends who may not be qualified. 3. Effective Communication: Ensure timely and effective communication within your core team and to the community at large, utilizing social media for event mobilization. 4. Team Player: Encourage teamwork, delegate tasks, and provide frequent feedback to allow team members to grow and contribute effectively. 5. Collaboration: Foster collaboration with other communities to share ideas and resources, preventing burnout and achieving long-term success. 6. Creativity: Infuse creativity into all aspects of your community, from event naming to design, to keep members engaged and excited. 7. Empowering Future Leaders! I had the privilege of leading a debate session at St. Thomas Institute for Science and Technology's 7-day Special Camp as an NSS volunteer. The topic: "What is the most important factor for success in life?" The students were grouped into four teams, each representing Power, Money, Love, and Education. The task: convince the audience that their assigned topic is the key to achieving success. The debate was intense, with each team presenting compelling arguments. Team Power emphasized the importance of influence and authority. Team Money highlighted the role of financial stability. Team Love stressed the value of relationships and emotional well-being. And Team Education demonstrated the power of knowledge and skills. As the debate concluded, I summarized the key takeaways: all four aspects - Power, Money, Love, and Education - are essential for achieving holistic success. It's not a zero-sum game, where one aspect outweighs the others. Rather, a balanced approach, where each element complements the others, is the recipe for true success.
