💎 Exploring the Richness of Saffron: Bunch, Negin, and Super Negin 💎 At Veles Farming, we're not just passionate about sustainable agriculture; we're also deeply fascinated by the nuances of the crops we grow. Today, let's dive into the world of saffron – a spice as rich in history as it is in flavor! 1. Saffron Bunch- The traditional form of saffron, the bunch is a blend of red stigmas and yellow styles. It's perfect for those who enjoy a milder saffron flavor and an authentic, rustic touch in their dishes. 2. Negin- Taking a step up, Negin saffron offers a more potent flavor and aroma. This type contains only the red stigmas, meticulously separated from the yellow styles. It's a favorite among chefs seeking a more intense saffron experience. 3. Super Negin- The epitome of quality in saffron. Super Negin strands are longer, thicker, and contain no broken parts, offering the most robust flavor and color. It's the go-to choice for culinary enthusiasts and professionals who demand the best. At Veles Farming, we specialize in producing these exquisite saffron varieties using our state-of-the-art vertical farming technology. Our commitment to sustainability and innovation ensures that every strand of saffron we produce is of the highest quality. We'd love to hear from you! What's your preferred type of saffron? How do you use it in your culinary creations? Share your thoughts and recipes in the comments! 🌿 #Saffron #VelesFarming #SustainableAgriculture #InnovativeFarming #CulinaryExcellence

After the harvesting, the flower peeling process comes. It is the most time-consuming and delicate work of the whole production. The goal is to pull out the threads and divide the different parts as described below (Super Negin, Negin, Bunch). If done by hands, each flower can take up to 1 minute and 20 seconds. The speed and the finesse of the workers will have great influence on the final quality; that's why at Veles Farming we took with with great seriousness the cleanliness and precision. Any ideas on how to partially of fully automatise the process without reducing the quality are up to discussion! 😁

25,000 years ago as glaciers tore their way through North America, they left behind a unique mix of soil that only a few plants would thrive in. One of those first plants to adapt in this new terrain was the wild blueberry bush. But don't let the small size of this berry fool you. It's a fruit packed with history, wars and innovation.Join John Paap and 💧 Patrick Kelly 🍊 "Lil Citrus" as they take us through the barrens of Maine and trace the story of how the wild blueberry became the tamed, cultivated blueberry we all know today. ***link to episode in comments below*** Fancy: Flavor Wave Fresh, Buck Naked Onions, Noble Citrus, Owyhee Produce, Summer Citrus from South Africa, and John Greene Logistics Company #innovation #freshproduce #freshfood #fruit #freshfruit #freshvegetables #freshfruits #produceindustry #fruitsandveggies #foodsafety #producelife #farming #farmlife #veggies #marketing #consumer #onions #waterforall #people #leaders #video #creative #sustainableagriculture #sustainability #packagingsolutions #packagingindustry #packaging #agriculture

With bloom behind us, apple growers are now focused on a critical practice known as thinning, essential for cultivating premium quality fruit. This process involves selectively removing some buds from a cluster, focusing energy on nurturing the 'king bloom' along with two or three lateral buds. Why do we do this? Thinning optimizes nutrient distribution and sunlight exposure. It enhances fruit size and significantly improves overall apple quality, ensuring each bite is perfectly crisp and flavorful. #Agriculture #Horticulture #AppleThinning 🌳✂️

Bowery Farming launches "a baby Bok Choy with tender leaves and crunchy, juicy stalks." In Singapore we would probably identify this as looking quite close to Nai Bai, a big favourite in many restaurants, eateries like hawker centers and food courts, and family meals. I have a sense that cultivating these indoors would give an edge over field grown produce, especially since environmental conditions can be adjusted to suit its growth. Moreover, some in-house trials suggested that adjusting the spectrum of light could potentially reduce certain defects, like leaf curling/crinkling which could lead to breaks in the leaves if not handled carefully. Curious on what thoughts you may have about this crop? https://lnkd.in/g5Kih5xT

A Study in Cover Crops | Part 2: Food for the Soil 🌱 The first rule of organic farming is that what we take from the land, we must return in equal measure. One way we achieve this is by planting carefully chosen cover crops in the wintertime. A favorite here at Frog's Leap is the fantastic faba bean. These small but mighty legumes have bacteria on their roots that fix nitrogen; a vital nutrient that the vines will use for healthy growth and water uptake. As John points out, healthy soils produce healthy vines, which in turn create vibrant wines that could only be from our corner of Rutherford. We mean it when we say we don’t make great wine, we grow it. 📷 California Wines • #FrogsLeap #ResponsibleFarming
