Unlike the illegal offshore operators and after almost a decade in the fantasy sports industry across three products, operating above board in a regulated industry has always been top of mind. From acquiring state licenses to payment processing and app store approvals, legal opinions of our ability to operate at the forefront of innovation in the fantasy sports industry have always served as the guide for PrizePicks. While great progress was made in the middle of last decade with fantasy sports legislation, DraftKings & FanDuel abandoned further legislation pushes so companies like ours and Underdog had to pick up the baton over the last couple years. We were very happy to be instrumental in codifying fantasy sports with new bills like the one in North Carolina earlier this year. One issue remains though: the industry is still lightly regulated so as the market leader, we have taken it upon ourselves to ensure we continue to raise the bar. A great example of that was our decision to move to 19 & up while all fantasy operators of scale remain at 18. With this latest partnership announcement, we wanted to go above & beyond what regulations require and help ensure the integrity of sporting events -- I'm excited to partner with other entrepreneur innovators in the gaming industry like Matthew Holt & Eric Frank. While games like ours increase in popularity, it's important to ensure the players of the game on the field and the players of our game off the field recognize what is permissible. Genius Sports, a data, technology and broadcast partner that powers the global ecosystem connecting sports, betting and media, has published its financial results for the second quarter of the year, highlighting its recent successes. The company’s revenue for the period exceeded the company’s expectations, causing it to update its guidance. As reported by Genius Sports, its revenue exceeded the Q2 guidance of $80 million, sitting at $86.8 million at the end of the quarter. This represents a year-on-year increase of 22%. Betting technology revenue increased by 27% year-on-year. Media technology and sports technology revenues, on the other hand, increased by 22% and 3%, respectively. The company also reported group adjusted EBITDA of $15.7 million, which exceeds the guidance of $14 million. Year-to-date group adjusted EBITDA, meanwhile, more than quadrupled year-on-year to a stellar $24 million. European football is in a state of financial and media flux. Let's take a quick look around the markets: 1) #PremierLeague - unlikely to have the rights competition they hoped for. They're set for a dip in per game rights value alongside a major increase in the number of available games to keep revenues up. The power has shifted towards the broadcasters. 2) #LaLiga - sold a proportion of their future media revenues to CVC. Not looking like a great investment as they've lost some of their biggest league stars since the deal. Rights values outside Spain will be a challenge without the global stars of Messi and Ronaldo helping global appeal. 3) #Bundesliga - are lacking domestic market competition and are having challenges in non-key markets. They're also considering a private equity injection. 4) #Ligue1 - just lost one of their biggest domestic broadcasters from the bidding race. Will be struggling to keep revenues at status quo. 5) #SerieA - tried a 'splice and dice' approach for rights that weren't fit for market conditions. Some may argue this isn't "true" live sports broadcasting, but I see it as a clever way for Netflix to test the waters.
