We're proud to be part of the Smart Heart Coalition with the American Heart Association, National Football League (NFL), PA Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, Simons Heart, Greg W. Moyer Fund, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia! Every year, over 356,000 cardiac arrests occur outside hospitals in the U.S., including over 23,000 children. To combat this, we're advocating for SB 375, sponsored by Sen. Brown. This bill mandates Cardiac Emergency Response Plans and AED availability at schools and athletic events, aiming to increase survival rates significantly. Let's pass SB 375 to safeguard our youth and ensure rapid, effective responses to cardiac emergencies. #HeartSafety #SB375

In November I'm committed to walking half an hour 5 days a week to raise funds for the Stroke Foundation. https://lnkd.in/g-_tk5az Our oldest son has survived two strokes in the past two years. He has a (currently) untreatable medical condition that makes him susceptible to stroke. We want to support the Stroke Foundation in their efforts to improve treatments, enhance recovery and support survivors and their communities. Do you know what the signs of stroke are? (Hint - FAST) Do you know what to do for someone who is having a stroke? (It's the T in FAST) And last but not least, did you know that increasing your exercise is a good way to reduce your risk of stroke - research tells us 30 minutes of exercise five times a week can reduce your stroke risk by 25 percent. Please consider supporting the Stroke Foundation. https://lnkd.in/g-_tk5az

It can take only 15 minutes of your time to save a life! Great story on BBC breakfast today looking at very fit professional footballers who suffered cardiac arrest and were lucky enough to have full medical support on hand to revive. Given so many people suffer cardiac arrest without medics close, it's great that the British Heart Foundation have put together a free online 15 minute interactive CPR training course. 1. If someone is unconscious and not breathing properly, call emergency services and ask someone close to find a defibrillator 2. Start CPR. If you’re by yourself, don’t leave the person alone to find a defibrillator, emergency services will bring one. Don't worry about hurting the person with chest compressions - they're already clinically dead! 3. Use a defibrillator. Follow the instructions on the defibrillator. This will give an electric shock to the heart. Use alongside CPR until help arrives Cardiac arrests can happen to anyone, at any time, at any fitness level - better to be prepared! https://www.bhf.org.uk/cpr #cpr #cardiacarrest #bhf #15mins #savealife

Vial of Life program Presentation at the Rotary Club of Sapulpa, OK. Presented by Lindsey L. Williams, President, Rotary Club of Owasso, OK. The Rotary Club of Owasso, in partnership with the Owasso Fire Department, launched the Vial of Life program on February 1, 2024, for home-bound seniors, housebound disabled veterans, and residents who may need emergency care. The Vial of Life program is nationally recognized as saving countless lives each year by providing emergency responders with life-saving medical information during an emergency. We aim to provide the Vial of Life kits free of charge to Owasso and the surrounding community. The Owasso Rotary Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit If your senior parent, housebound disabled veteran, or another family member had a medical emergency and were alone, they might be unconscious or confused. If so, who would provide the crucial medical information that EMS personnel need in an emergency? Even if awake and aware, people don't always remember details in a crisis. This is when the free Vial of Life kits can save a life! Our goal is to help medical personnel make the best decisions regarding emergency treatment for Owasso, OK, and surrounding areas by providing a Vial of Life Kit for the residents who need it. "The Vial of Life Kit is designed to speak for the residents when they can't speak for themselves." Vial of Life Program: https://lnkd.in/gXMqbYwR

The The King's Fund highlights the critical importance of growing and investing in primary and community health and care services, labeling it as one of the most significant policy failures of the last 30 years. This resonates deeply in the field of eye care and optometry. Learn more about the healthcare policies of different parties in the comparison provided by The King's Fund: https://lnkd.in/ez3DnWqK Additionally you can read College of Optometrists manafesto to end the eye care crisis, at the heart of that is primary and community eye care policy interventions and investment. Forty 4 Frankie Launched this week the Forty 4 Frankie project aims to fund 40 Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to be installed in locations around the city of Portsmouth, Hampshire. https://lnkd.in/en3PyQ3p An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) or defibrillator is a life-saving device that can help save the life of someone experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest. They are easy to use, and portable, with clear step-by-step instructions so anyone can use them, from a bystander to a trained professional. The device checks the person’s heart rhythm and will only tell you to give them a shock if it’s needed. You cannot shock yourself or someone else accidentally. Use of a defibrillator is a key part of first aid management when someone has a cardiac arrest. Importantly, if a defibrillator is used within 5 minutes of the cardiac arrest the chances of survival are 50 - 70% with the success rate deteriorating with each passing minute so that by 10 minutes the survival rate is only 20%! the majority of cardiac arrests occur in the home (72%) or the workplace (15%) The recommendation is that a defibrillator should be readily available within 300 metres of a cardiac incident to allow the collection and use within 6 minutes of the person collapsing for maximum effect. If you can donate thanks very much, if not no problem please share the Crowdfunder details with your contacts. Thanks for reading. https://lnkd.in/en3PyQ3p

One of the largest concerns some have with the Israel-Hamas war is how to help children in Gaza. We all care about these children, but know Hamas steals humanitarian aid sent to Gaza and uses it for terrorism. Including donations sent from people in other countries trying to help children. I've been ruminating on this issue because like any other ethical person, I think it's great to help save children. But (also like any other ethical person) I think it's not great to financially support terrorists. I just heard about an excellent nonprofit operating out of Israel, which provides pediatric cardiac care to a large number of children from Gaza. Bonus, their donations don't get stolen by Hamas! From their website: "Approximately 50% of the children are from the Palestinian Authority and Gaza, Iraq, and Morocco, more than 40% are from Africa, and the remainder are from Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Americas." They also provide training to Palestinian doctors and doctors from various other places where appropriate pediatric cardiac care is scarce (or non-existent). If you want to help children in Gaza without worrying your money ends up in Hamas' hands, donate to Save a Child's Heart here: https://lnkd.in/ezzfvadj

With Restart A Heart Day just around the corner (16 October) could I please ask everyone on here to learn this most important life skill. Remember, that there are nearly 30000 out of hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year. This means that sadly only 1 in 10 will survive… having the skills and confidence to take action could absolutely make a difference. Remember, the worst thing you can do in that situation is to do nothing… #cpr #cprsaveslives https://lnkd.in/eQ3MhcQm
