There is a phrase that work isn't "all fun and games." It can be if you're in fundraising. Charities are generating hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions of dollars by teaming up with gamers. Here's our cover story on the trend. hashtag #fundraising hashtag #gaming https://lnkd.in/ePbhAmDx

"pLaYinG viDeO gAmeS wOn'T heLp yOu iN lifE" It's been said too many times to count, but only now are we seeing that this is in fact not true in the slightest. If it weren't for countless hours on Call of Duty, Star Wars Battlefront and many more titles, I wouldn't be enjoying the work I am now - raising funds and awareness to change the face of men's health. Last month was my third campaign with Movember and I've managed to narrow down my big highlights in gaming: 1: EA FC 24 x Movember - One of the most popular games this year, and we managed to get moustaches in there too. With an in-game kit and full stadium customisation, it was impossible to miss Movember messaging when playing EAFC last month. 2: Twitch Together For Good - Ever logged onto Twitch and just wanted to see charity streamers? This year, Twitch made that possible with their new campaign, Together For Good showcasing everyone fundraising on their platform. On the 30th, Twitch placed extra emphasis on the countless Movember streamers that day, as well as dropping in and leaving very generous donations to a handful of streamers! Thank you especially to Ethan Hammerman and Carina Henry who really paved the way for Movember 30th to be such a great day. 3: Kick starting my streaming career (not quite...) - it was an honour to join Edward Cooper for just a small part of his 24 hour stream at Hashtag HQ,. With countless forfeits, incentives and guests, he was one of our many incredible community streamers who took on a fundraising stream this year. 4: Jingle Jam 2023 - This one's not even over yet but it's already massive. The World's Biggest Charity Gaming Event is back once again, and it's amazing to be a part of it for a second year running. A huge community of streamers coming together to raise funds for 12 incredible causes. Having kicked off on December 1st and already just shy of £1.5 million, the end result on the 14th really will be staggering. If you know of anyone who could benefit from a Games Collection worth £1,100, for just a donation of £35, then please get in touch. Thank you to everyone who's helped make these opportunities come to life - Mo staff, streamers, their communities and everyone in between, without them we wouldn't have had the month we did. Thank you!

Another one to start the catch-up! 18/30 One gaming event I eagerly anticipate is the week-long Charity Livestreams hosted by Games Done Quick, where I make it a priority to clear my schedule to participate in some way. For the uninitiated, Awesome/Summer Games Done Quick are week-long Speedrunning Livestreams uniting the gaming community to raise funds for various charities, featuring gamers demonstrating their skills, tricks, and glitches to complete games swiftly. Beyond its entertaining spectacle, it serves as a hub for a collective effort toward a noble cause, exemplifying the importance of such events in the Esports ecosystem. While Speedrunning isn't conventionally linked with Esports, I view its competitive nature and communal spirit as attributes that elevate it to a similar status. These events breathe life into games, spanning from retro classics to indie gems, showcasing the breadth of gaming while supporting charitable endeavors—an endeavor I hope to see expanded to encompass more traditional Esports titles.

Forget the tired stereotype of gamers slumped in front of screens. In Dorchester School District 2, esports are taking center stage in schools, offering students a dynamic world of competition, skill development, and career exploration. It's not just about racking up wins in "Valorant" or mastering the drifts in "Mario Kart" – although there's plenty of that too! Esports are more than just a fun way to pass the time. They're an educational tool, a career springboard, and a vital step towards building a future generation of skilled, confident, and connected individuals. #LenovoLegion #esports #gaming #gamingcommunity #esportscareers #esportsindustry #esportsjobs #letsgo #esportslife DD2 starts first eSports program in Lowcountry | News | postandcourier.com

Do you enjoy fun? No? .......weirdo. Wait; yes?! Right...of course you do. Well, guess what: Attention #GamesIndustry, #CreatorEconomy, and #BrandPartnerships friends: There is a gala on September 30th, at the The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco...celebrating the founders and fundraisers who have, to date, raised over $3MM to battle Type 1 Diabetes (#T1D). Dinner, drinks, dancing...and there are some seats still available! There are also sponsorship opportunities (nudge nudge). Many of you know Hans ten Cate...maybe from his days at Electronic Arts (EA), MaxPlay, or Tilt Five...or maybe from his long-running one-man show: "A Tribute To Marcel Marceau: The Very Loud Years." In addition to performing in wildly misleading and confusing musicals, Hans is also the longstanding Vice Chair of JDRF International's #Game2Give, where he has been instrumental in funding research, advocating for policies that accelerate access to new therapies, and providing a support network for millions of people around the world impacted by T1D. See below for more information - and reach out to Hans if you think you might be able to join the list of amazing companies, creators, and industry luminaries who have helped take on this debilitating disorder. Oh...one last thing. Though this is a fundraiser, there is no obligation here. You can seriously just eat, drink, be merry...and pester Hans into doing his "Man In A Box" mime...which is a...how do I put this: very thoughtful mashup of classical pantomiming, and a faithful reproduction of the 1991 hit from #AliceInChains. #VideoGames #GamesIndustry #Philanthropy #Rooster
Game industry colleagues! Join me at the #JDRFHopeGala on Sep. 30 in San Francisco. We're celebrating how games have raised money and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes and JDRF International, thanks to Humble Bundle, Roblox, World Golf Tour, Electronic Arts (EA)'s The Sims, Nintendo's Animal Crossing, countless Streamers on Twitch and more! Ask me or see details about tickets & sponsorships at jdrf.org/norcal/hopegala.
