🌟 Advocating for Accessibility: A Personal Experience Recently, I attended a beautiful event. I was setting up the cake I lovingly made. While setting up, a staff member approached me, saying, "Sorry, the disabled toilet is full of tables; we didn't know you'd be coming." In that moment, I realized the assumptions made about accessibility. Imagine hearing, "We didn't know you'd be coming" because of a wheelchair. Throughout the night, I had to rely on others to navigate the ambulatory toilet, as the disabled one was inaccessible. The struggle was real – a long, narrow space meant difficulty manoeuvring my wheelchair. It led to moments of urinary urgency, compromising my independence. Celebrations were marred by a lack of accessibility. I share this not only to express frustration but to shed light on the challenges of navigating a world that isn't always inclusive. If you're a cafe or business owner, let this serve as a reminder: disabled toilets are not storage rooms. Ensure they are clear and available, fostering an environment where everyone can celebrate without compromise. Let's spark awareness and make spaces truly accessible. 🌍💙 #AccessibilityMatters #Inclusion #AdvocateForChange #AccessibleSpaces
