The Lancet has updated its guidance for authors on reporting data on race and ethnicity. Mabel Chew, Diana Samuel, Sabine Kleinert and I explain the changes here. In brief, we encourage researchers to: 👉🏼 Include people from minoritised racial or ethnic populations as research participants 👉🏼 Report and analyse data by race or ethnicity or both, and if this isn't done, explain why (helps to understand what the barriers are) 👉🏼 Explain how race or ethnicity were defined 👉🏼 Discuss the full scope of potential drivers of observed disparities - particularly structural ones for which race/ethnicity might be a surrogate marker 👉🏼 Suggest positive solutions based on community strengths, rather than simply pointing out negative associations "We seek to transform systems, including our own, that have sustained these inequities and to find new paths to health and wellbeing, benefiting society as a whole. We invite our authors, reviewers, and readers to join us on this journey to healing." https://lnkd.in/eycNX4z5
