Most of us know about the glass ceiling and how women are making strides in breaking through them. The "glass cliff" is a different story altogether -- one where a woman is brought into leadership position to clean up in a time of crisis, when there's a higher probability of failure. "Naysayers of the glass cliff would probably argue that these women – and those who look up to them – should be pleased that they have finally broken through the glass ceiling, regardless of the circumstances of their appointments. But Prof Ryan said that while having more women in top leadership positions is progress, “if they are more likely to be in such positions in times of crisis we run the risk of reinforcing stereotypes of women not being good leadership”." #goodread #womeninleadership #workplacegenderequality

When companies like Molson Coors decide to ditch Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, we need to ask: Who benefits from these decisions, and who gets left behind? DEI is not about performative gestures. It is about accountability, justice, and creating environments where historically marginalized communities—BIPOC, LGBTQIA , women, disabled, and neurodivergent individuals—have the opportunity to thrive, be heard, and be seen. By rolling back DEI initiatives, we are telling marginalized people that their safety, representation, and well-being in the workplace are negotiable. That the discomfort of addressing hard truths like white supremacy, patriarchy, and systemic inequities is more important than their lived experiences. Let me be clear: Ending DEI efforts is not just a corporate decision—it’s a declaration that equity and inclusion are optional values, not essential ones. For those of us working to dismantle these oppressive systems, this is a call to action. If your company is backing away from DEI, demand better. We cannot afford to let these hard-fought initiatives be erased to appease fragility, comfort, or complacency. Equity is not a trend. It’s a necessity. To Molson Coors and any other company rolling back on these commitments: You may gain temporary applause from those resistant to change, but you are cementing your place on the wrong side of history. Those of us fighting for justice aren’t going anywhere—and neither are the demands for true equity, inclusion, and belonging. Another day, another beauty representation slay. 🙌 This time coming from Kory Marchisotto and the brilliant team at E.L.F. BEAUTY. ELF commissioned research that showed there are more Dicks (people called Richard, Rick, Dickie) than there are Hispanic women on Boards in Corporate America. Let that sink in 😮 ELF are calling for companies to acknowledge the work still to be done and collaborate to make meaningful commitments and ‘change the board game’. As one of the highest growth global companies, ELF stand as a beacon for what diverse board representation and diversity of experiences in leadership can achieve in real terms for business growth. Their board is made up of 2/3rds women and 1/3 of the board identify as from diverse backgrounds. And they are delivering, on an incredible scale. They say a rose by any other name might smell as sweet, but what if the garden itself needs tending? That’s how I see the current state of DEI. While the urge to rebrand DEI is strong in today’s climate, let’s not get hung up on labels. Personalizing DEI is the real challenge here. True inclusion isn’t about following a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s about weaving inclusion into the core of our organization’s mission, vision, and values. When everyone feels safe and included in our spaces, our brands flourish. By creating a genuinely inclusive space, we solve customer problems, gain a competitive edge, and build lasting loyalty. Labels aside, the work continues. Our future depends on it.
