💛 Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 💛 Did you know that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month? It's a time to shine a golden light on the courageous kids fighting this tough battle and the incredible organizations working tirelessly to support them, like CWCF (Children with Cancer Fund). Here are a few ways you can "go gold" this September and help raise funds for CWCF: 1️⃣ Host a Fundraiser: Gather your friends, family, and coworkers for a awesome event (or even a virtual event!) You can organize an auction, bake sale, a fun quiz night, or even a talent show. Let's get creative and have a blast while raising funds for this worthy cause. 2️⃣ Wear Gold: Show your support by wearing something gold throughout the month. Whether it's a gold ribbon pin, a gold-themed outfit, or a gold accessory, let's make a statement and spread awareness wherever we go. 3️⃣ Create a Fundraising Page: Set up a personal fundraising page on social media platforms and share your story. This month, we’re initiating a campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness month called BRA VO. Over 2 million individuals are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, with over half a million fatalities (according to WHO, 2021). These staggering figures underscore an urgent need for public awareness. Contribute to a powerful cause by donating your used bras to support Toly to raise awareness, save lives and remind everyone of the importance of early detection. By donating ten bras, you will receive a complimentary blush compact. If you do not have any bras to donate you can still support the cause by donating €5 and receiving a free blush compact. All financial contributions will go directly towards hospice and other cancer institutions. Trigger warning: Post about Stage 4 Cancer Yesterday marked 1 year since I heard the words 'The cancer is back'. 4 words that felt like a weight so unbearable, that in that moment, I didn't know how I would tackle another day, let alone be here, reflecting on the past year. But I am here, 1 year on, having spent the year working on how to navigate this new challenge. A challenge that feels so incredibly unfair after already having worked so hard to overcome so many challenges in the 37 years I've been on this earth, but a challenge I have no other option but to face. As I reflect on the past 12 months, I feel proud that not only am managing (just about) both the physical and mental impacts of Stage 4 cancer but I am continuing to work full time in a role that I know is making a difference. Working as a Relationship manager for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) in Wales, I have had the opportunity to work with some incredible people who are raising money and awareness to help support life-saving research. A key highlight of 2023 was working with the amazing Business Beats Cancer Cymru board on their inaugural event that saw them raise over £50,000 for research happening in Wales. An extremely proud moment. I am grateful for the support I have received from our incredible volunteers, fundraisers and my employer, Cancer Research UK (CRUK) who have allowed me time, flexibility and understanding over the past year. I could not have got through the past year without this much needed support. I look to the year ahead with hope that we will continue to fund incredible research projects in Wales and across the UK, that will see more people live longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. We have achieved so much over the past 40 years but there is still so much more we must do. Please do reach out to me, if you want to help make a difference. 🎊 Mac Millan Cancer Support Donation 🎊 I have received some great news that my Direct Funding request for the maximum of $10,000 was approved by the Jamf Nation Global Foundation for the Macmillan at Work. Support and Wellbeing in the Workplace Cancer support foundation. I put in this request for this great foundation as they are currently supporting a colleague's family who are battling cancer and it hit close to home as I have had family members taken by this illness. It's such a privilege that Jamf provide us with a platform to help others like this and make elevate our charitable efforts to create a larger impact 🙏🏻 . Some more info on where the money goes; 🙌🏻 Provide Services: They provide services for people living with cancer at every stage of their cancer experience. We are here to provide emotional, practical, physical, and financial support. 💰 Raise Money: They're 98% funded by voluntary donations, so fundraising is essential to make sure we can deliver the vital support people living with cancer need. 👨🏻💼 Influence Descion Makers: We run public campaigns, build partnerships, and influence decision-makers on all cancer-related policies at UK-wide, national and local levels. 💜 Support Cancer Workforce: Provide healthcare professionals with up-to-date resources, tools, information and training courses to help them to support people living with cancer. 🔬 Cancer Research: It is important that Macmillan understands the numbers, needs and experiences of people living with cancer, so we can continue to provide our services and advocacy where they are needed most. 👩🏻⚕️ Help employers support staff: Macmillan at Work is our workplace training.
