STOP!! Mental health is a real thing. It kills Americans daily. Struggling with mental health is no different than struggling with cancer or another terminal illness. Let’s focus on the desire to make MENTAL HEALING a priority. As I once heard it said …. Is not the brain connected to the rest of the body? Let’s not vilify those that need support. Side note; did you know that clinical psychologists and mental health and behavioral therapists ALSO go to therapy. The weight of the world, the weight of your job, and the weight of your LIFE does not have to be your burden. Here are some resources if you need them SANARE TODAY, LLC and Maternal wellness. Let’s talk about mental health. July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, which spotlights the inequities that marginalized communities face regarding mental health. Consider this: ✔1 in 5 American adults live with a mental illness; however, according to the federal Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, Black adults in the U.S. are more likely than white adults to report persistent symptoms of emotional distress, such as sadness and feeling like everything is an effort. ✔Despite the needs, only one in three Black adults living with mental illness receive treatment. ✔People who identify as BIPOC are less likely to have access to mental health services, less likely to seek out treatment, more likely to receive low or poor quality of care and more likely to end services early. Unfortunately, these statistics are just the tip of the iceberg. We need to have honest conversations about the historical and ongoing traumas and challenges facing BIPOC communities. And these conversations need to include trusted voices. That’s why I’m grateful for our partnership with Richard L. Taylor Jr., a mental health equity advocate. We’ve launched a new series called “Mental Health Minute,” where Richard will address issues specific to BIPOC communities as well as share his lived experience. I hope you’ll join us and be a part of these important conversations. #healthequity #healthcare #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealth
