The onus was on me at my church's youth department week celebration to speak and I spoke about the youth and their civic engagement.I took examples from the life of reputable men and women in the bible who due to their civic engagement brought lasting change to their community.I admonished the church to consider their civic engagement.Examples were taken from the life of Deborah,Esther, David, Jeremiah and Daniel.I encouraged us all to discover our passion, purpose and potential to make us more viable because we would need money for any endeavor even as little as a bottle of oil.Scripture verses were Jeremiah 1:4-10, Daniel 6:3, Romans 13:1-6, Luke 10: 25-37.Gen 1:27-28(I used this verse to speak about the youth and governance). What is meant by civic engagement? Well I got these few. Civic engagement or civic participation is any individual or group activities addressing issues of public concern. Civic engagement includes communities working together or individuals alone both political and non political actions to protect public values or make a change in the community. It involves ways citizens participate In the life of the community to improve the conditions of others. Examples of Civic engagement are political engagement, community engagement,civic skills engagement and social justice engagement. The pleasure is always mine to impact. "I have read perspectives from philanthropy leaders offering hopes for a commitment to pluralism, unity, and bridge-building. Polarization and divisiveness are presented as twin plagues threatening our democracy. But this analysis is fundamentally flawed. Polarization and divisiveness are symptoms of the problem, not the problems themselves. Until we address the root causes of the injustices that sow division, any sense of unity is inauthentic and disproportionately taxes those most proximate to the harm. To preserve democracy, we must first acknowledge that the promise of American democracy has yet to be fully realized. By demonizing resistance and minimizing it as divisive, we place the burden to take the high road on the most disadvantaged. Philanthropy has the moral responsibility to support those committed to the ever-enduring struggle for a more just world. To preserve democracy, we must first acknowledge that the promise of American democracy has yet to be fully realized, in large part due to the vestiges of slavery in our political systems. Recognizing that truth, we can meaningfully grapple with the role that philanthropy can play in sustaining democracy. Most importantly, we can stand on the side of justice, eschew the convenience of neutrality, and provide long-term, at-scale support for social movements."

🌟 Civic Leadership: The Key to Achieving Social Change! 🌟 A recent dive into the invaluable role of civic leadership in fostering civic engagement and advocating for social change got me reflecting on how profoundly impactful such initiatives can be. Civic leadership goes beyond political positions—it's about empowering citizens to take charge and make a difference in their communities. From my own experiences, whether it's organizing a local cleanup or leading a community forum, the skills and connections developed through civic engagement are irreplaceable. Each action, no matter how small, builds towards a collective strength capable of monumental transformations. Since 2020, there's been an urgency to address racial inequities in the social sector, especially around access to power. We were curious if since then more people of color serving in nonprofit leadership roles. The answer is yes, and no. Mantin Diomandé, lead research analyst at Candid, digs into archival demographic data to examine whether there has been an increase in racial diversity among nonprofit leaders between 2020 and 2023. Here are our top three takeaways: 1. There were no major shifts in the overall racial representation of nonprofit CEOs at the sector level. 2. Roughly 2% of organizations indicated a change between BIPOC, white, and other leaders each year. 3. When there was a change between BIPOC, white, and other, it was often a shift from a white CEO to a BIPOC CEO. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gHnbWwXp
