On Monday we joined The Philadelphia Juneteenth Family, Inc. and other local leaders at City Hall for a flag raising ceremony to commemorate Juneteenth. Greater Philadelphia YMCA CEO, Shaun Elliott, was honored to speak at this year's event. We'd like to extend heartfelt thanks to The Philadelphia Juneteenth Family for their continued dedication to increasing the education and commemoration of Juneteenth in our community and throughout the country.

It was an honor to serve RaiseUp Families as their Executive Director for nearly 4 years. In that time, the organization experienced unprecedented growth: ✅ Expanded Board of Directors by 50% ✅ Doubled the number of families (clients) being served ✅ Client outcomes improved by 100% (average income increase in signature 9-month HandUp program went from 35% - 71%) ✅ Client graduation rate improved from 80% to 91% ✅ Revenue growth from $450,000 to $1,000,015 (donations from private sources) These outcomes are a result of the Board of Directors and staff working together towards a common goal, each person utilizing their unique skills and abilities in their individual role to help the bus arrive at its desired destination. They are the result of hours and hours of innovation, hard work, and determination. As RaiseUp Families celebrates its 30th Anniversary of stabilizing families from vulnerable communities who face unexpected financial crises so their children can focus on their education, giving them the opportunity for a better life, it needs a full-time leader with passion, vision, and experience to lead it forward. I could not be happier that Kate Yadan will pick up this torch and lead RaiseUp into the future! "We know that change is a natural part of life, and those who embrace it grow while those who do not slowly die, metaphorically. Two of the largest obstacles to change are ego and pride. Moving out of our own way is the toughest battle most of us will face. Giving up our seat for someone else, stepping down when it's time for someone else to step up, and gracefully exiting when we have added all the value we can, are what we should all strive for." -Angela Burgess, Are You on the Right Bus?
We are THRILLED to annouce a big change at RaiseUp Families! After a rigorous search, Kate Yadan was named our newest Executive Director as of March 1, 2024! Kate's knowledge and experience are unparalleled, and more importantly, her passion for stabilizing families from vulnerable communities so their children have the opportunity for a brighter future knows no bounds. We are incredibly grateful to Angela Burgess for sharing her vision and leadership with our clients, our staff, our board of directors, and our community over the last four years and wish her well in her future endeavors! Come out and welcome Kate at our 2024 RaiseUp Families Graduation Celebration! Sponsorships and Tickets are on sale now: https://lnkd.in/g3pn6Bjk

If you haven't been before, the Tillamook County Fair is a can't miss summer event. My recommendation: Get some quality ice cream from a local favorite and go check out the 4-H club events. If you really want to go crazy, eat that ice cream during the Pig n' Ford race - just look it up. Mark you calendars for next year! And check out the video linked below to learn more about how TCCA shows up during the fair.
The County Fairs in our hometowns of Tillamook and Boardman are wonderful gatherings for the local communities to come together over good food and fun. Every August, we support our local fairs in a big way, including hosting an ice cream booth at the Tillamook County Fair, where 100% of the proceeds go towards the local 4-H club. Since 2010, we’ve raised $175K for 4-H, and we look forward to continuing our support for years to come. Summer might be over, but here’s a peek at how we celebrated our community and our people at this year’s Tillamook County Fair:

"Volunteers at Hard Rock Stadium give their time and effort to support a noble cause through Sodexo Live's nonprofit organization program , but sadly, they've been served a dish of unfair treatment and abuse. It's time for change and respect for these dedicated individuals." Who are doing great work In Our communities. There’s been 16 groups on a do not return list, for no apparent reason also there not responding or respecting our contracts. When you speak out our express your concern about the unfair treatment, they breach the contract with out even notifying the NPO’s. By using vindictive tactics and . Methods. They don’t acknowledging the NPO organizations nor any thing in writing. Please spread the word and let’s make sure NPO’s get fair representation and treatment.

I've been in a bit of a startup bubble 🙈 the last few years, so last night it was refreshing to be immersed in a new community, filled with fresh faces and ideas (courtesy of Queensland Gives by Queensland Community Foundation). There's something special about being in a room surrounded by people who selflessly dedicate so much of their time and energy to helping support others and the environment. I've been thinking a lot recently about where there are potential intersections between the approach and focus of #NFPs and the world of #startups and #venturecapital. While many would probably see them as 'chalk and cheese' (one focused on financial returns at all costs, while the other forgoes financial gain altogether), they share quite a few common traits: 1️⃣ Commonly inspired by a personal experience of the founder 2️⃣ A vision for a better way/ better future and a fierce passion for making this change while others might be ok with the status quo 3️⃣ Require entrepreneurial spirit and smarts to start and survive I think these common traits make them ripe for more collaboration and sharing of insights, yet it's quite rare to see Australian tech startups partnering meaningfully with not-for-profits who share similar goals or values. Why is this? 🤔 I'd love to know more about examples of this happening. If exploring how the NFP/ philanthropy world can better partner and intersect with the startup/ VC world tickles your fancy, I'd love to hear from you! 💌

It was fantastic to be able to represent No More Butts at the Queensland Gives by Queensland Community Foundation Philanthropy Week launch last night (along with my wife 🚀Gemma), and to meet so many other fantastic Queensland organisations and their supporters! Congratulations to our Executive Director Shannon Mead on his nomination for an award - brilliant recognition for many years of tireless contributions. Fingers crossed ahead of the announcement of winners this Friday at the Gala Lunch 🤞

Excited to announce we have secured a community grant from the lottery fund! What went on behind the scenes of getting this grant, was me applying not once, not twice but FOUR times before being successful. My application was rejected due to me not paying attention to smaller details which were flagged during the screening or not having my paperwork in order before deadlines. I say this to highlight the extra barriers that come along with having ADHD and creating a community that is by us for us. Set backs like this can be so disheartening and the difficulties sustaining steady income is the reason many grassroots equity led organisations have to dissolve. Our hope is that eventually, we will not have to be so reliant on grants that take up a lot of mental strain and time that we could be investing into our community. We have started this journey by: 1) Launching our membership with an Ubuntu model (scaled between £2-20 with all perks equal so babes can access care on at a price that is affordable) 2) Assessing our services and offers as an organisation (workshops, consultancy, research) 3) Launching our own fundraiser and celebration event! https://gofund.me/c54f6fef If you haven't already, please do check out our fundraiser and come down to our 3 year celebration on 31st of this month where we will be celebrating: Three Years of Black Babe Magic! https://lnkd.in/enjwAC6Y
We have good news! We have been one of the recipients of the Lottery Community Fund and will be using the grant to fund our outreach project! Thank you The National Lottery Community Fund for believing in our community, we have already been able to utilise the fund with our first pottery class which was a huge success. Excited to keep creating safer spaces for Black Women & Non-binary folk with ADHD to come together in community 💖
