At first glance, swimming may seem like a simple recreational activity or sport, but for individuals with Down syndrome, there is more to it than that. The joys and challenges of swimming on a team also shows the importance of integration and inclusion in sporting activities. It is still not commonplace to see our friends participate in team sports like swimming and in having integrated teams with all abilities. This is why we celebrate some of our friends who are a part of the 2023 Franklin HS Swim and Dive Team. Read more on the importance of swimming for people with Down syndrome in this in-depth blog. https://lnkd.in/eC5e9Hzv Swim hard friends!

I help swimming coaches build race-winning skills in a systematic manner. Follow for posts about how to develop the most important skills as quickly and easily as possible.
When pairing drills and full stroke swimming, an easy way to shift the emphasis of the set is by altering the repetition numbers. More drills = more time discovering new skills. More swimming = more time applying those skills.

One of the biggest challenges with implementing drills is getting changes seen in drills to show up with full stroke swimming. To help that process, I like to design sets that provide swimmers as many opportunities to go back and forth between the drill and the full stroke swimming. That gives them as many chances as possible to execute when it matters. 8x25 Underwater recovery 8x25 Freestyle vs. 16x25 ODD Underwater recovery EVEN Freestyle A very simple change that is going to provide swimmers with a LOT more opportunities to take what they learn in the drill to their swimming. The CONCEPT can be applied in any CONTEXT.
