Stackline research counts it down to the dollar at $274, CMO Benjamin Felix revealed in a session “From Insights to Outcomes” at the American Pet Products Association (APPA)'s annual conference. But pet companies are only scoring a 19% customer retention rate. Why? They often prioritize the glitz of landing new customers over the journey of building long-term consumer relationships, he noted - even though pet parents index high on loyalty. His recommendation: “The final frontier for pet brands is to move away from the traditional top-heavy acquisition funnel. Any dog trainer or professional who works with animals who’s with their salt, will tell you that humanizing animals is not good. It erodes obedience and creates many mental issues with the animal. “Raising” a pet is nothing like raising a child, and using Hilary Clinton’s old adage about it serves only to increase buy-in to new revenue streams. I love my rescue dog, and while I say she’s like family, she’s not really and I’ll never treat her like a child. It’s great to improve quality of care and that can be assisted by quick innovation, but tugging at heartstrings to loosen pusrsestrings at the cost of an animal’s well-being isn’t right. #pets #animals #leadershipinbusiness
