Universities in the US have implemented initiatives to enhance diversity in STEM fields, focusing on improving outcomes for racially minoritized students. While many diversity initiatives target undergraduate programs, there is a gap in support for STEM graduate students, and the success of these initiatives often hinge on the participation and endorsement of underrepresented STEM faculty. Today we celebrate STEM Day and recognize the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics classes in schools across the United States. For those interested in furthering their STEM education, click below for a brief explanation on the concepts behind evaporative cooling – one of the most widely-used heat rejection solutions across the world. Because, after all, if it wasn’t for STEM, evaporative cooling might have never become the important cooling technology it is today. https://bit.ly/47poOYl

Integrity-driven multi-disciplinary scientist hoping to pivot into a new field using expert-level skills in research, publishing, professional writing, presentations and mentoring.
It seems unnecessary to define STEM in the 21st century, so maybe I should discuss why modern university professorship in a STEM discipline is far more than classroom teaching. Not that teaching isn’t a meaningful, full time career in itself, but it is only a portion of a STEM faculty member’s responsibilities. We are also expected to conduct cutting-edge research, mentor young adults in research, to be entrepreneurial, seeking grants to pay for the research, publish the research outcomes and in some cases apply for patents. In addition to the broad categories of teaching and research, we conduct the business of governing and managing the university through committee work. (We call it service.) In my impression, as a STEM professor, most of us work 60 hour weeks, if not more. "More" about the workload in the next post.
