Most people wouldn’t have thought that geotechnical drilling companies work in urban environments; but we do! Restricted access drilling is often required in areas with limited space, such as towns and cities. However, this specialist form of drilling is often required in rural settings if the site is difficult to enter. It’s a common misconception that the terms ‘restricted’ and ‘limited’ access mean the same thing. When limitations impede a drill operators' ability to use their equipment, then this refers to limited access. On the contrary, restricted access refers to the difficulty in accessing the site in the first place. If a company offers restricted access drilling rigs, then they will likely supply machinery for limited access situations. Limited Access shouldn't mean Limited Options   Landshark Group does an array of drilling, but we wanted to shed some light on our Limited Access rigs and some of the benefits to them! Limited Access Drilling (LAD) refers to the process of drilling in areas where access is restricted or challenging. This can occur in various environments, such as urban areas, hydro dams, environmentally sensitive locations, or sites with limited space. This snap shot of our crew captures them completing a slope stability study with multiple 60 ft boreholes, SPT sampling and an inclinometer installed at each location with no impact to the rail line above.   Here are a few more benefits of Limited Access:    👉 Urban Environments: Limited Access Drilling is often necessary in urban settings where space is constrained, and traditional drilling equipment may be too large or disruptive. It allows drilling to be conducted in close proximity to existing structures, roads, or other infrastructure.   👉 Characterizing Elements: Landshark Group’s Limited Access drill can provide shallow auger and mud rotary drilling to depths of 185’ and SPT sampling.
