Scottie Scheffler has been through a lot these past couple of months, but keeps on persevering and setting records! He is spending some time off the course investing in the Texas Ranchers pickleball team. I hope to see more of his business endeavors soon! #entrepreneur #business #golf #pga #investments
Scottie Scheffler has won The Memorial Tournament, taking home the $4 million first-place prize. That means Scheffler has officially set a new single-season PGA Tour earnings record for the third straight year. 2022: $14 million 2023: $21 million 2024: $24 million Even crazier, there are still 3 months left in the season. This guy is on an entirely different planet right now. #sports #linkedinsports #sportsbiz

EQUITY is a very important value in my life (more than EQUALITY, but that’s another post for another day). At last night’s Denver Barbarians Rugby Club training, we had a scrimmage against our “sister” rugby club, Colorado Gray Wolves. I used to coach a women's team back in New York, and many of my current players have played in co-ed touch rugby teams, but this was the first time any of us had played in a men vs women game. Specific aspects were adapted and controlled to maintain safety and security, but otherwise it was a regular scrimmage. In our sport, soft skills such as rugby IQ, spatial awareness, and communication are no less important than hard “skills” such as strength, physicality, and aggression, and under last night’s controlled conditions, the soft skills in my players were thoroughly tested. The result was a highly competitive, highly skillful, and highly equitable game of rugby where both teams adapted, learned, and had fun, three key tenets of my coaching (and leadership) philosophy. Moral of the story: “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others”. This is true in sport and in business, and to achieve equity we must recognize these inequalities, make adjustments, and adapt. But here’s the rub: blindly putting our thumb on the scale to engineer equity, is the absolute antithesis of equity. #passion #purpose #performance #equity #leadership #coaching #timrhutchins
Last night we engaged in a live scrimmage with our close friends at Colorado Gray Wolves, to help with their preparation for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) season which the kicks-off on Saturday. Both squads benefited from stiff competition, and played some excellent rugby within controlled parameters of contact and physicality. When working with players of this high skill level and rugby IQ, we achieved a highly competitive environment while maintaining safety and security for all the players. Thanks Coach Jamie Burke and everyone at Gray Wolves. Let’s do it again soon! #rugby #USAclubrugby #USArugby #DenverBarbarians #Barbos #ColoradoGrayWolves

The impact of Covid-19 on both businesses and communities has indeed been profound. The pandemic has highlighted the importance of relationships over transactions, emphasizing the value of collaboration, communication, and empathy. As businesses shift from a purely transactional approach to one that values relational dynamics, they foster environments where innovation and skill development thrive. This cultural shift towards nurturing soft skills and building partnerships can lead to more resilient and sustainable business models. Similarly, communities have faced challenges that require collective action and support. The pandemic has shown that community strength lies in unity and the ability to adapt and support one another. Coordinated efforts, whether through sponsorship, partnerships, or community initiatives, can help rebuild and reinforce community bonds, making them more robust against future adversities. The example of Westaway Sausages Ltd. and Newton Abbot Rugby Club illustrates how businesses can play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing community spirit. By investing in local institutions and activities, businesses can contribute to the social fabric and well-being of the communities they are part of. In essence, the legacy of Covid-19 could be a shift towards a more relationship-oriented approach in both business and community settings, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, resilience, and mutual support.

Rugby is broken…but not beyond fixing. Drive change at club level or be left behind. Audience is no longer guaranteed; you have to fight to stay relevant. David Buttress gave us the unfiltered owners insight on this week’s Business of Sport 5 Key Takeaways 🔥 1. Rugby governance needs a shake up Too many operators in positions of influence who are not driving new initiatives and development plans 2. Players need a profile It’s an athlete driven sports world and rugby players are not brands in their own right. Celebritisation of players is crucial and doesn’t have to come at the cost of ‘team’ 3. International rugby dominates. Club rugby is dying Selling international rugby is not the challenge; 1Bn watch the Rugby World Cup, but that is not converting to club rugby. Improve distribution and modernise the product 4. Jeopardy is essential…but retain the value Closed ‘franchise’ leagues provide security (and consquentially value) but sacrifice a lot of jeopardy. Can similar value exist in an open system? 5. The game needs money Investment, media rights, commercial growth, fresh revenue streams…basics don’t have to change. Create a product that enables the cash to flow #sport #sportsbusiness #rugby #ownership

A couple of weeks ago, I took time out to watch Leicester Tigers at Gloucester in the Premiership Rugby Cup final. Amazing atmosphere, not the result we wanted, but Gloucester deserved the win. 💪 As a business owner, taking time out to recharge is crucial. Make sure you take some time this week to focus on you! Have a great week, everyone! 🙌 #businessowners #rugby #localbusiness #businesscoach

Is International Rugby "more intense" than other competitions? The common perception is that the international code is physically more demanding than club rugby. Research from Peter Tierney, Ph.D et al, suggests that may not necessarily be the full story... Collision Count and Collision Loads are at their highest in the INT game. But Total Distance, HSR, and HMLD are comparatively up in competitions like the Champions Cup, URC/Top14, and the British & Irish Cup. This would suggest there is less space available at international level due to higher skill levels, defensive structures, tournament tactics and style of play. Due to the significant increase in Collision count and load, specific preparation is required for higher collision demands at higher levels of competition. And for Performance staff, this has significant implications for how players are trained at specific levels of the game.
