June is Pride month, a time to celebrate diversity and foster an environment of inclusivity and respect. Celebrating diversity and inclusion is essential, especially in the workplace. For #TrainingTuesday we are highlighting trainings that focus on promoting inclusivity. These trainings cover a wide range of topics, from LGBTQ awareness to cultural competency and unconscious bias. The LGBTQ population faces disproportionate health risks. Stigma, discrimination, and a general lack of understanding of specific needs of the LGBTQ population reduces access to safe healthcare and services. Learn about health disparities faced by the LGBTQ population and the health consequences of ongoing stigma and discrimination. Familiarize yourself with current terms and practice using language appropriately to contribute to improving health equity for the LGBTQ population It's important that we continue to support and elevate each other not just this month, but throughout the year. Let's strive to create a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. By fostering an inclusive environment, we can together build a stronger, more unified team that thrives on our collective diversity. Start learning today! https://buff.ly/45nrbuV

Today we celebrate National Coming Out Day, October 11. At Sky Ridge Medical Center, we believe all people deserve excellent care. We are an open, affirming and friendly environment, where above all else we are committed to the care and improvement of all human life. #BeProud --- “Coming Out” has been the common term for someone who acknowledges being LGBTQ and it is used throughout our resources. However, it is important to note that this language centers the persons we are coming out to rather than us. It gives the impression that people who don’t identify as cisgender or heterosexual are hiding something from society, rather than acknowledging how homophobia and transphobia create an unwelcoming environment. When publicly identifying as LGBTQ , you are inviting people into a part of your life that should be protected and celebrated. You are not asking for permission to be you. You control the narrative, as well as who and what you allow into your life. Remember, you are not alone. No matter where you are in your journey, we wish you a full, rich, authentic life — a life free from bias, discrimination and hate — and we are working hard every single day to make sure that is a reality for you and for everyone. We are gonna build a world where every LGBTQ person can be healthy, safe, liberated, celebrated and joyful in every area of our lives - without exception. Let’s do it together. source: https://bit.ly/45x9rM6

Why is creating LGBTQ inclusive intersectional mentoring spaces important? LGBTQ inclusive intersectional mentoring spaces provide a sense of belonging. By actively acknowledging and addressing the specific challenges faced by queer individuals, these spaces foster a sense of community and support. This, in turn, boosts confidence, self-esteem and overall well-being. Secondly, LGBTQ inclusive intersectional mentoring spaces promote personal growth and help people to develop resiliency tools. Mentoring relationships can offer opportunities for knowledge sharing, skill development and, in some cases, career advancement. In a setting of inclusivity and belonging, queer individuals can explore their unique strengths, talents and goals, allowing them to thrive both personally and professionally. Read the full article from Jonathan Echevarria Tolentino, QUEERSPACE collective consultant and Sexual Health Specialist for the Department of Public Health at Hennepin County, Minnesota to learn basics of intersectionality, why it's important, and some key steps: https://bit.ly/3Vo5w2v #PrideMonth #PowerOfParks #WhereYouBelong #ParksAndRec #Inclusion #Intersectionality #Pride #Parks #Recreation

As Pride Month begins, many companies change their logos to rainbow colors in support of the LGBTQ community. This visibility is a good start, but it's essential to translate this support into meaningful actions that promote inclusivity throughout the year. Performative allyship, such as changing a profile picture, isn't enough. True allyship means taking substantial actions: • Implement policies that protect LGBTQ employees from discrimination. • Offer comprehensive health benefits that cover LGBTQ specific needs. • Foster a workplace culture where everyone feels safe and valued, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. • Support LGBTQ causes and organizations not just in June, but year-round. Visibility is important, but it's just a start. Let’s hold these companies accountable and demand real, lasting change. #pridemonth
