Pride month is a celebration of diversity, recognising the importance, history and ongoing fight for equality of the LGBTQ community. At this time of year, we display our support by signalling our allyship and belief in the importance of inclusivity for all. This isn’t a solitary action, we live and breathe this agenda throughout the year in the adoption and implementation of our Diversity & Inclusion Strategy. As advocates for corporate social responsibility with a diverse team, we strive for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion because they're essential values. However, effectively communicating these values can be challenging for companies particularly during LGBTQ Pride Month when companies unveil rainbow-themed products and rebranding efforts. The phenomenon of "rainbow washing" has led to skepticism towards brands that seem to capitalize on the LGBTQ community, often resulting in fumbled Pride messaging or misaligned values. June is Pride Month–a time to celebrate the resilience of the LGBTQ community and their progress in pursuit of equality and acceptance. It’s a time for reflection, education, and connection. As we enter Pride Month, it's essential to celebrate the strides we've made in fostering inclusivity and acceptance for the LGBTQ community. We believe in the power of community, empathy, and deliberate action to reshape our world into one that truly values and respects every individual. Historical Context Matters: Just as racism and inequality are products of design, so too is discrimination against LGBTQ individuals. Our journey toward equity must acknowledge this legacy and its ongoing impact. We celebrate the heroes who fought for the rights we enjoy today, recognizing that the fight is far from over. Radical Inclusion: True inclusivity means going beyond mere acceptance. It requires actively dismantling barriers, welcoming diverse stories, and creating spaces where everyone can bring their full selves. Pride Month is a reminder that inclusion is not a static goal but an ongoing process of radical love and acceptance. The Path Forward: While we celebrate the progress made, we must also acknowledge the work still needed. Implicit biases, structural inequalities, and societal norms continue to challenge the LGBTQ community. We commit to using equityXdesign principles to tackle these challenges head-on, merging empathy with action to create lasting change.
