Texas Historical Commission’s Post

Following an incredible restoration journey, the Mason County Courthouse will be rededicated on July 13, 2024. This neoclassical courthouse, built in 1909, has risen from the ashes after a devastating arson fire in February 2021. The Texas Historical Commission's Courthouse Preservation Program was crucial in the building's revival, providing funding and expertise to ensure its authentic restoration adhered to historical preservation standards and met modern safety and accessibility requirements. The details have been carefully restored or recreated, from the salvaged first-floor windows to the newly crafted courtroom furniture. The iconic cupola, affectionately called the courthouse's "crown," was placed atop the building in April 2023, marking a significant milestone in the restoration process. The rededication is part of Mason's 59th annual Round Up Weekend, featuring a parade, rodeo, and courthouse open house. The courthouse has been a focal point of Mason's central square for over a century, and the restoration helps preserve Mason County's legacy. Event info: https://lnkd.in/ginPkdU8
