If you missed attending EO Summit a couple of weeks back, here is an excellent piece from Mark Holmes from Via Satellite that summarises: i) the outlook for the EO market from major players, including quotes from Massimiliano Vitale of Planet, Awais Ahmed of Pixxel, Jarkko Antila of Kuva Space and Eric von Eckartsberg of EarthDaily Analytics, ii) insights from the EO Investments and Growth panel, discussing the reality of the EO market, including quotes from Marc Robins of Barclays and Martina Ecker of Citi, iii) the potential of EO in the Insurance and Finance market including quotes from Vania Hernandez Bello of Descartes Underwriting, Subit Chakrabarti of Floodbase and Nataliya Tkachenko, PhD of Lloyds Banking Group. Unlike conferences that just focus on the hype of EO, I am very proud that EO Summit was able to go beyond that and reflect on the actual challenges of commercial EO adoption while also presenting some operational, real-world use cases of EO across various industries. https://lnkd.in/eyzV_bs9

I'm glad to see these questions raised, especially in an industry where despite the clear potential and passion from those working on these problems, we are still not reaching commercial expectations. I'm surprised that accessibility is not mentioned more here; a continued strategy of high cost data, closed source platforms and models must be harming accessibility. How do we bring those costs down? And how do we make it easier to adopt EO insights?

I found a decent article on EO financing issues I have summarized it here: More than half of the information is on the similar lines of what we have been reading. New lessons learnt at the inaugural EO Summit in London in June are: 1. Insurance sector is going to fuel the EO observations. More so with climate change and few specific examples. 2. None talked about the quality of data; to me that is prime 3. They all said we scratching the top layer of data with 20% or so being used.  4. PLANET mentions the difficulty of letting the users learn the potential of EO data The nail in coffin was ….  It is terribly hard to raise 100- million dollars or above; this DID NOT happen in 2023. https://interactive.satellitetoday.com/via/july-2024/the-eo-revolution-is-yet-to-hit-top-speed-despite-its-obvious-potential/
