We are back from summer break. Back with backpacks full of energy challenges, but hopefully also solutions.
Today at Eurelectric Electricity Advocacy Group we shared the latest policy news, decoded the #soteu and exchanged on policy ambitions for the next EU elections at which #grids deserve to be in the heart of matter.
My day continued at Microsoft offices in Brussels to emphasise the importance of digital twin solution for electricity grids. Solution that according to Ben Gemsjäger from Siemens Infrastructure will reduce electricity outages times in LV by 30%, grid model maintenance work by 50% and IT complexity and costs by 60%. It's about time we get out of the black box era, and ensure those smart meters are running, data flowing and grids automated!
Now, ending my day at the Energy Day of Polish Electricity Association in Brussels where Wanda Buk, from PKEE Management Board ensured us that Poland is on track achieving its climate goals. But only if the policy framework is there to support the efforts. As she explained, we are returning from a record hot summer in Europe to face even broader problems. Problems beyond climate change like disrupted supply chains, rising inflation squeezing investment portfolios, high energy prices and bottlenecks at grid levels. The backpack is full as I said...
On a positive note, in past 20 years Poland has increased the installed RES capacity 20 x, which is impressive.
Furthermore, last year Poland, Estonia, Ireland and Latvia achieved their solar targets that were set by 2030. So there are also solutions and achievements that should be celebrated.
Where we are headed from here? Come and see yourself at @Eurelectric #PowerBarometer23 this Thursday in Brussels.
