Selfless service is the value of looking beyond yourself,” “It’s recognizing that it’s not all about me, that there’s a bigger picture. It’s recognizing you are one component in the grand scheme of things. Practicing the value of selfless service requires citizens to put aside their self-interests to commit to what is needed for their team, organization, or community to reach mission success. Selfless service is a product of the patriotism and pride they have in their nation and their local community showing the appreciation they have it. Selfless service and local volunteerism fit communities together much like a piece in a jigsaw puzzle. If we want to look at what an individual employee brings to the fight, we can look at them as a single piece of a huge puzzle. By itself, the piece doesn’t look very significant. But, when you are putting that puzzle together and you are missing a single piece, that one piece becomes critical and essential. Join the team, volunteer at KMB ...we're doing good stuff locally and it's making a difference. https://lnkd.in/edpT-wc

🌟 **Join the Movement: Clean the Block!** 🌟 Over the weekend, I had the privilege of witnessing something truly inspiring – the passion and dedication of individuals like O'Neil Hesson and SiSi Encarnacion who are leading the charge in the Dallas area with a mission called Clean the Block. Their initiative is not just about tidying up the streets; it's about revitalizing our communities and showing love and respect to our neighbors, especially the elders who have built the foundations of our neighborhoods. Think about it: our neighborhoods are reflections of ourselves. When we let litter accumulate, weeds grow unchecked, and obstructions clutter our sidewalks and streets, we're not just neglecting our environment; we're neglecting each other. But together, we can make a difference. O'Neil Hesson, President and Founder of The SERUN Foundation, and SiSi Encarnacion, a Community Engagement Strategist, are leading the way by tackling the top 10 code violations that plague our communities: 1. High Weeds 2. Litter 3. Obstructions in Alleys/Sidewalks/Streets 4. Unauthorized Signs in Public Right of Way 5. Bulky Trash 6. Substandard Structures 7. Junk Motor Vehicles 8. Illegal Dumping 9. Illegal Outside Storage 10. Graffiti These may seem like small issues on their own, but together, they contribute to a larger problem of urban decay and neglect. By addressing these issues head-on, we're not only improving the physical appearance of our neighborhoods but also fostering a sense of pride and community. Remember, "Don't Mess with Texas" isn't just an anti-litter campaign; it's a call to action to take pride in our great state and show love and respect to our fellow Texans. So let's roll up our sleeves, grab some trash bags, and join the Clean the Block movement. Together, we can make a difference, one block at a time. Are you ready to make a difference? Join us in cleaning up our neighborhoods and spreading positivity and love throughout our communities. Together, we can create a brighter future for all! #CleanTheBlock #communitypride #DallasStrong 🏙️💚

Award winning community leader with a retail management background. Served on several community based boards.
I mentioned last night that the work continues. This Saturday will be our last clean up of the year. We've done an impressive job at removing excessive blight from the neighborhood. An editorial from the Blade a few years back has always stuck with me. To paraphrase, blight has always been a low lying fruit for neighborhoods but yet the city can't get a handle on it. It's gotten a lot better. The city has been committed to working with neighbors and groups at battling this problem. Monthly drop off locations, communication with neighborhoods, outreach, acting on Engage Toledo reports, holding dumpers accountable, getting rid of blighted properties. The work continues. Residents have to continue to come together. Different ideas have to be implemented and sometimes that is as simple as placing trash cans in popular areas, using social media and media to get the message out about neighborhood events, building partnerships with friends, family, organizations, businesses. We sometimes stand alone at these projects but the mission and goal remains. What makes it all worth it is at least one person notices it. It means we are making a difference. You know the deal, volunteer with us, you know the goal, you know the experience, you know the end result, you know what needs to be done, you know who to reach. #Toledo #CommunityService

It’s National Park Advocacy Week! National parks are reaching a critical breaking point from declining budgets and staff, skyrocketing visitation, cumulating maintenance needs and worsening climate disasters. The good news: There are solutions available for lawmakers to act on right now. We're focused on four key actions this Park Advocacy Week: 1. Increase park funding by at least $250 million to help bring back thousands of park staff 2. Extend the Great American Outdoors Act to help #FixOurParks 3. Preserve our history by enacting the Cultural Resource Challenge 4. Tell the story of all Americans by supporting individual bills that expand our National Park System, including the Big Bend National Park Boundary Adjustment Act, Chesapeake National Recreation Area Act and Rim of the Valley Corridor Preservation Act. #ParkAdvocacy #FundOurParks #ParkProtection #LobbyDay #HillDay #NationalParks #ParkAdvocate
Tomorrow, over one hundred NPCA staffers and dedicated volunteers are heading to Capitol Hill to push Congress to protect — and fund — our national parks. While NPCA meets with members of Congress and the administration regularly about challenges impacting our national parks, our annual lobby day gives park advocates from across the country the opportunity to collectively speak up for the future of their national parks and communities. 🍃 2024 Alabama PALS "Don’t Drop It On Alabama" Statewide Spring Cleanup 🍃 This April 2024, Alabama embarks on a transformative journey with the "Don’t Drop It On Alabama" Statewide Spring Cleanup. Throughout the entire month, we are calling on cities, counties, schools, neighborhoods, and volunteer groups to unite for a monumental cleanup effort across every county in our state. With all supplies and materials furnished, we are fully equipped to tackle the challenges of litter and illegal dumping head-on, improving our community health, environmental sustainability, and even our city budgets. Our recent blog post sheds light on the vast impacts of litter on our communities. (Read the full post here: https://lnkd.in/eDtAQbrQ) From affecting the aesthetics of our cities to profoundly impacting residents' quality of life, the costs of litter are not just financial but also societal. Studies, including those by the University of Toronto, have shown that clean, well-maintained neighborhoods boast lower crime rates and higher property values and even contribute to better mental health outcomes. Yet, the financial burden on states like ours is significant, with millions spent annually on litter collection and cleanup efforts. The "Don’t Drop It On Alabama" initiative is more than just a cleanup; it's a call to action for all Alabamians to play a part in enhancing the beauty and health of our state. It's an opportunity to demonstrate that, through collective effort and state-wide participation, we can significantly reduce the environmental and economic impacts of litter. Let's come together to make a difference. Plan now to involve your community in this vital initiative. Join hands with volunteers from every corner of Alabama to clean up our beloved state. 📅 Date: Entire Month of April 2024 📍 Statewide in Alabama ✨ Let's keep Alabama beautiful, one cleanup at a time! 🔗 Learn more here:https://www.alpals.org/ ✨ Be part of the change and help keep Alabama beautiful! #DontDropItOnAlabama #AlabamaPALS #StatewideCleanup #Litter #IllegalDumping #SmartCitiesConnect #CommunityPride #CleanAlabama #EnvironmentalImpact #CommunityHealth #RollTide #blightsurvey

Sustainability and circular economy professional building systems that improve our lives and the world around us
Anyone know what the definition of insanity is? 🙋♀️ I'll go. It's doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, and it's exactly what the Parker administration is perpetuating here with its 13 weeks of block cleaning and no follow-up plans for how address systemic waste, litter, illegal dumping and other quality of life issues that have plagued Philly for decades. We've seen this movie before, and it always ends the same way--with perpetually littered and dumped on neighborhoods and disillusioned Philadelphians. We are long past the point where we need real, systemic solutions to these problems. Short-term band-aids like this 13-week program won't create the lasting change we need, and we needed change yesterday. Furthermore, the "if you're not with us, you're against us" rhetoric spouted by Parker at the end of this clip is exactly the kind of rhetoric used by autocrats (and a certain recent U.S. president) who want to silence anyone that believes the solutions on offer are inadequate. It's divisive and dangerous and frankly, just plain gross. At Circular Philadelphia, we continue to advocate for creative, innovative solutions that shift us away from the status quo and towards lasting change that benefits all Philadelphians. Yes, these solutions require more work and leadership than simply sticking your finger in the air and proclaiming "One Philly!" But without them, eventually we won't HAVE a Philly that anyone wants to call home. I am proud of my co-director Nic Esposito for being willing to continue to speak out about the urgency of enacting real solutions, and I implore my fellow non-profit leaders who care about issues related to waste, dumping and climate to join him in speaking up about how this mayoral administration must do better.

Over the past four years, Torrance, California, has pursued a lethal coyote "management" program that has seen far from desirable results. Since Torrance began their trapping program, coyote sightings in the city have ~increased~. The citizens of Torrance also took a significant financial hit to fund this program, paying a staggering $256,000, resulting in the inhumane trapping of 78 coyotes. 🤯 That's over $3,200 per coyote – resources that could have been better allocated elsewhere! This method is not only destructive to local wildlife and ecosystems, it's ineffective and a significant waste of taxpayer funds. Opting for coexistence over killing has a wide range of benefits. It's proactive, preventing conflict before it happens, and delivers long-term effectiveness. Nonlethal methods allow carnivores to naturally regulate their own populations. Plus, nonlethal methods are significantly more cost-effective, freeing up funds for other essential community needs. Let's take inspiration from Pasadena, California, where the city council recently voted unanimously for an expanded NONlethal program, promoting public education and humane conflict solutions rather than killing. This victory, accomplished through grassroots advocacy and collaboration, fills us with hope as science, ethics, and reason triumphed over outdated methods. Killing should never be the answer to conflicts with our wild neighbors. 🌎🧡 #ProjectCoyote #California #Coexistence #CompassionateCoexistence #Coyotes 📷 Gretchen Kay Stuart, #CaptureCoexistenceContributor
