I'm trying to put together a summary of my tech talks, articles, jury panels etc. and almost everything older than ~2 years is gone 😱 - meetup-com deletes everything if your subscription runs out - new organizers wanted to "clean up" and deleted repos - websites have been refactored, all articles gone - companies and their websites don't exist any more - ... 🤯 If you're a community organizer, please - keep talks, videos, presentations etc., they may be important to your speakers and/or attendees. Keep them on GitHub and try to make sure the repos don't get deleted, but archived - try to generate talk pages where speakers and attendees can look up and find information easily - maybe even deliver thank you emails with a "certificate" for talking on your event, with date, time, title etc. - do not rely on meetup/eventbrite/any other walled service to keep things Even if the talk is outdated and irrelevant in 6 months, there may be other use for it. I didn't think of most of these things until now, but will make sure to communicate that to communities I worked with. I'm also working on an "event framework" that helps manage tech events and meetups via "Issue Ops" on GitHub called https://lnkd.in/gdkvPeqJ. One more lesson I learned is that GitHub Issues are gone when a repo is (accidentally) removed, so I'll add an Action that archives all "talk issues" as files in the repo.

We're pleased to share that our Events API (https://lnkd.in/epAkGzZu) has gained a much-requested feature: Subscribable Calendar (iCal) Feeds 🥳 What does this mean, and who's it for? Many members of our community have asked for the ability to view local tech Meetup events natively in their favorite calendar apps (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook, and so on). This all new feature makes this possible for everyone 🚀 ❓How does it work? You can now see upcoming events in calendar format in a few different places: On the public Google Calendar page at https://lnkd.in/e2S8Rfwx Or, by subscribing to the public feed at https://tampa.dev/ical with your favorite calendar app. 🎁 Extra Goodies Want to filter out specific groups, event types, and more? Example: if you'd like only Tampa Devs Tampa AWS events that are not online, just add the following parameters to your subscription URL: ?groups=tampadevs,tampa-bay-aws&noonline Check out the documentation (https://lnkd.in/eei6SV89) to learn how to apply all the available filters. 🔧 How does it work under the hood? Check out the Pull Request at https://lnkd.in/eVviGhT3 to examine the implementation.

If you're in the Bay area and familiar with OpenTelementry, then this is for you. Our experts are going to talk about Telemetry data - from scaling dozens of PiB capable infra, how to solve real problems with real data and finding out where the market is going. #OpenTelementry #observability
For all my #opentelemetry friends and self proclaimed wizards/witches - Middleware is hosting an SF Bay Area meetup at our office at the end of this month! (4/25) Come talk about all things Telemetry data - from scaling dozen of PiB capable infra, how to solve real problems with real data, and find out where the market is going. Also, I'm not going to succumb to LinkedIn algorithm gaming, so the link goes in this post rather than the top comment. If it finds you then you were meant to be found. 💓 https://lu.ma/vmpc0fpf PS. we're still taking submissions for presenters, but as always we like to prioritize conversations over presentations and keep the talking at to a minimum #observability #sf
