Yesterday, Temasek released #TemasekReview.    Our performance over the long term continues to be resilient. Our Net Portfolio Value has steadily grown over the past 2 decades and across market cycles to €267b.    As at 31 March 2024,  EMEA constitutes 13% or €33b of Temasek’s net portfolio value.  Temasek invested €3b in EMEA last year, with investments in companies such as Aira, ASML, Element Materials Technology and H2 Green Steel.   Looking ahead, Temasek aims to deepen its presence in region, with plans to invest about €14b-€21b in Europe over the next 5 years. Our #Temasek reported a Net Portfolio Value (NPV) of US$288 billion for the financial year ended 31 March 2024, with the US portfolio being a key contributor to the growth. Marking our unlisted portfolio to market would provide US$23 billion of value uplift and bring our Mark to Market (MTM) NPV to US$311 billion. Our decade in the Americas has seen our exposure grow from 11% in 2015 to 22% based on underlying assets. In addition to expanding our footprint in the US -- from New York to San Francisco, and Washington D.C -- we also established the Temasek Americas Advisory Panel, comprising eminent business and thought leaders to facilitate closer collaboration with business stakeholders in the respective regions. The US continues to be the leading destination for our capital and has been for the past 7 years. This underscores the depth of opportunity we see in the US market, driven by strong business fundamentals and a culture of disruptive innovation. If, you look closely at the businesses that have created higher MOIC for PEVC firms they are usually the ones: 1) Extremely Good Team 2) IRR > WACC 3) IRRt < WACCt 4) Sustainable Competitive Advantage 5) Amazing product or service which solving a problem 6) Above par execution But I always wonder if IRR is the best metric to be used to analyse deals, MIRR is a better one, is it because it makes the investment more attractive or a PEVC status quo. #privateequity
