New Satellite companies must consider the costs of a lifetime when making comm system choices. Here are two examples: 1. Choosing VHF for a tech demo to save on CAPEX, means you have to design a new system after getting funded. 2. Choosing a cheaper antenna might cost you more long term. Don't skimp on costs now just to pay more later. Pay attention to lifetime costs of the choices you make. These came up during a recent conversation with Giovanni from Leafspace. #satellitemissions #satelliteoperators #newspace #space4 #leafspace Space exploration one post at a time

🚀🌍 Ever wonder how space missions plan the most efficient routes? Our new Mission Plan showcases how FreeFlyer optimizes the time of flight from Earth to the Earth-Sun L1 point using three TrajectoryPhase objects. This process starts by calculating an initial guess for a midpoint epoch along the transfer trajectory. Over a 3-day propagation, TrajectoryNodes are added to the Earth departure and L1 arrival phases, which are then added to the Optimizer. In the evaluation loop, the time between the first node of the Earth departure phase and the last point in the L1 arrival phase is minimized, achieving an optimal time of flight of 41.13 days and a delta-V of 0.774 km/s. From setting up initial conditions to visualizing the spacecraft's position, FreeFlyer is your reliable partner for accurate and efficient space mission planning! 🛰️🌌 💡 Curious to see how FreeFlyer can enhance your satellite mission design, analysis, and reporting? One-day prime delivery is standard. How about a one-hour delivery of satellite imagery? 🛰️ Albedo is working to create 10 cm visible, 2 m thermal imaging and deliver it in under one hour. ⏱️ Here's what is needed to make it possible (among others): 1. VLEO Constellations in 250 - 400 Altitude Orbit 🌌 2. Small sat capable of manoeuvring out of drag using efficient electric propulsion 💡 3. Widely distributed ground station network that transmits commands/receives data with satellite📡 4. Preprocess the data - ready for further analysis 📊 5. A cloud-based approach for area selection and delivery ☁️ 6. License to sell 10 cm imagery - already granted by NOAA in 2021 📃 The 10 cm resolution is pushing what's possible from space, and Albedo's daring effort to pick a very low orbit, if succeeded, will encourage others to follow the path. 🚀 Space exploration one post at a time.
