Water emergency is a problem increasingly affecting most of the planet. It is our job to search for effective, agile and economical measures that will allow us to put an end to it. Our proposal focuses on being able to bring water to any place that needs it, independent of accessibility or space. According to this statement, we have designed an innovative proposal for containerized desalination plants that are the solution to lack of potable water that affects important areas of the world such as Latin America. Containerized desalination plants are an efficient solution for water treatment. Installed inside shipping containers, they offer portability and quick installation, ideal for remote locations or immediacy needs. Our proposal uses a state-of-the-art reverse osmosis system ensuring high efficiency and high quality drinking water. Its modular and scalable design allows adjusting the production capacity and treating different water qualities according to demand and needs. This type of desalination plant is useful in projects where emergencies, drought, access or space problems are present. The CaribDA Caribbean Biennial Conference & Expo in the Bahamas was a resounding success. Tom Pankratz, a keynote speaker and editor of the Water Desalination Report (WDR), presented a timeline highlighting significant desalination milestones in the Caribbean region. Aruba (WEB Aruba N.V.) and Curaçao (Aqualectra) are notable as two of the earliest adopters in the Caribbean's nearly 100-year desalination history. Aruba: approximately 92 years since 1932 Curaçao: approximately 95 years since 1929 The attached WDR file details the diverse histories of Aruba and Curaçao, showcasing their use of MED, MSF, and SWRO technologies for both municipal and industrial purposes. Seven Seas Water Group is steadily expanding in the Caribbean region and beyond with its Water- and Wastewater-as-a-Service Delivery Model. Besides being a beautiful tourist location, the Esch-sur-Sûre Lake powers a hydroelectric power station and acts as the largest drinking water reservoir in Luxembourg providing today 43 % of the annual national demand. These are all compelling reasons to preserve the Sûre water quality and its functionality. The total catchment area of the reservoir is 428 km2, 2/3 of which is in Wallonie (Belgium). As such, pollutants are discharged into the Sûre from both the Belgian and Luxembourg sides showing that an improvement of the Sûre water quality is possible only through coordinated cross-border cooperation. The Interreg Greater Region-funded QualiSûre project has the ambition to address this complexity. The project specifically aims: 1) to identify the emission hot spots 2) to optimize existing WWTP 3) to use Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) supported with unconventional substrates for the reduction of micropollutants, nutrients and bacteriological contamination. The results will be incorporated into a decision-support tool that enables the intelligent distribution of pollution in the catchment area. Finally, a cross-border master plan for maintaining the quality of the Sûre will be developed. The project will benefit from an interdisciplinary team led by the Luxembourg Wastewater Syndicate SIDEN (Diederich Ronny jean-david Maennlein Roland Schaack) and having partners on the Belgian side such as the water institute CEBEDEAU (Jean Francois Gerard Fanny Gritten Stephane NONET), the wastewater operator IDELUX Eau (Quentin Neulens Christine BOUILLON) and the Société Publique de Gestion de l'EauSPGE (Rosalie PYPE); on the German side the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau (Ulrich Dittmer @Henning Knerr); and from Luxembourg the company RTC4Water (Alex Cornelissen @Georges Schutz), LIST (Tom Gallé) and University of Luxembourg (Joachim Hansen Silvia Venditti). What I learned from my short trip to Greece about its water market is: 1️⃣ Greece has around 10 million people, but they have many good water companies and experts. 2️⃣ Greece's commitment to advanced water treatment technologies, with investments increasing annually by 15%. 3️⃣ The booming demand from key industries like pharmaceuticals, textiles, and food processing drives a robust 10% growth in the industrial wastewater treatment market each year. 4️⃣ The surge in public-private partnerships, increasing by 20%, showcases a thriving environment for collaborative ventures to enhance Greece's water infrastructure. 5️⃣ In Greece, 230 utilities manage water and sanitation services. The Athens Water and Sewerage Company (EYDAP) is the largest, catering to 4 million people. The Thessaloniki Water and Sewerage Company (THESSALONIKI WATER SUPPLY & SEWERAGE CO. ♻️🇺🇦The Ministry of Ecology in Ukraine is planning to establish five modern waste processing facilities in the Poltava Region.The proposed locations for these eco-friendly plants are Poltava, Lubny, Kremenchuk, Kobelyaki, and Zinkiv. All these waste processing facilities are expected to be built at the same time, with a construction period of up to two years. 💰The funding for this initiative is expected to come from both international banks (covering 80% of the construction costs) and private sources (providing the remaining 20%). The Ministry aims to simplify the investment process in Ukraine's waste processing sector, making it more transparent and accessible to potential investors.
