The challenge of developing reliable EV software, besides the doubtful lifecycle of the batteries, the lack of infrastructures, and the collateral carbon footprint to produce electricity.......makes me still valuate my combustion car 🤷

With mainstream consumer demand flat, the auto industry is calling on government to support private buyers by halving VAT on new BEVs for three years. This temporary cut would give private consumers access to fiscal support at a level similar to that enjoyed by business buyers, enabling manufacturers to deliver larger volumes of zero emission vehicles. Combined with a retention of the business incentives that have already proven their value in increased EV uptake, the measure would accelerate the UK’s market transition. More drivers would upgrade their existing petrol or diesel car to a new zero emission alternative, widening the future supply of used electric vehicles and making investment in chargepoint rollout even more compelling. https://lnkd.in/eBS6zkUJ

He has vowed to shred President Biden’s E.V. policies and has threatened that “You won’t be able to sell those cars.” “You’re not going to be able to sell those cars,” he has said. But analysts say that even if Mr. Trump is elected and ends federal policies that support electric vehicles, by the time that happens, the market may have reached a level where it would keep growing without government help. If Republicans gain control of Congress, a Trump administration could also work with those lawmakers to rescind parts of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which provided at least $370 billion in tax credits for clean energy, for battery manufacturing and for E.V. sales and manufacturing. But Mr. Trump may find the auto industry and its suppliers are cool to his plans to thwart electric vehicles, Ms. Oge said. When Mr. Trump was elected in 2016, E.V. sales were about 1 percent of the auto market, while today they’re approaching 10 percent, Mr. Bozzella noted. “In 2017 there were a handful of plants in the U.S. making E.V. batteries, and today there are dozens,” he said. “The market is different, the automotive industrial base is different, and the world is different.” Given the growth in electric vehicles and the investments in Republican states, it’s possible that those dynamics could play out in surprising ways in a new Trump White House, said Mike Murphy, a veteran Republican strategist who founded an E.V. advocacy group, the EV Politics Project. “You have closet E.V. supporters in the Republican world,” he said. “There will be sober quiet voices even in Trumpland that will push back. And the nice thing about Trump is that he can always change. He’s totally transactional.”

Many thanks to the North Central Texas Council of Governments and Dallas Fort Worth Clean Cities for publishing the monthly reports on plug-in vehicle adoption in Texas. As can be shown, since the beginning of the released data, EV registrations in Texas have risen between 2.4% and 4.5% on a month-to-month basis. Annually, the increases have been between 49.5% and 55.7%. No EV demand? There is in Texas! Let's do a little forward looking math, using the annual percentage increases. If we predict that the increases will drop to the lowest it's been in these records (49.5%), Texas will have over 4 MILLION plug-in vehicles registered by December 2030. That's only 7 years away and it's 16X what Texas has right now. It will actually be faster, due to the new EVs coming to market, especially the Cybertruck. If we use the highest highest annual percentage increase (55.7%), that December 2030 number of total plug-in vehicle registrations increases to 5,319,617, or 22X what Texas has now. I believe, based on other technology adoption rates, that the actual number will be greater than the highest shown by these quick calculations.

The way to win the EV race is with an open source approach that allows for upgrades as new batteries and software are perfected.
