Google got caught with their hand in the cookie jar...again. Google Chrome's incognito mode is supposed to not track your activities, letting you browse the web anonymously (at least as far as the browser is concerned). But it turns out that Google, who makes money primarily off of advertising and your data, was secretly collecting "billions of data records", a 2020 class-action lawsuit determined last month. Google has agreed to delete the data. They also agreed to update their incognito splash page to " will explicitly state that Google collects data from third-party websites “regardless of which browsing or browser mode you use,” and stipulate that “third-party sites and apps that integrate our services may still share information with Google". The bottom line is that incognito mode isn't completely private nor anonymous. If you're worried about privacy, then you need to use more privacy-respecting browsers such as DuckDuckGo...and use a VPN.

Chrome web browser is preloading its extension giving preferences in network communication, bypassing web browser security and privacy mechanism. That may be the most fascinating potential Digital Markets Act case to date. I analyse this case on grounds of technology and DMA regulation. I use a neat trick of the DMA Article 6(7) utilising the superpowers of "regardless". #DMA #privacy #google #chrome #regulations #webbrowser https://lnkd.in/dpTXRgfX

🍪 Why Say Goodbye to Third-Party Cookies? No need to panic—it's not a cookie crisis but a privacy makeover in online ads! Cookies are our buddies for a smooth online ride, but the old trick of tracking us with third-party cookies got a bit too familiar. Regulators and lawmakers have been on this tracking adventure for two decades. Why? 'Cause we all want more say in how our data dances around the internet. 🌐 The Privacy Wave: To honor the privacy cheer, countries threw in new laws. It's a global shout-out for data protection and user power. 🚀 Safari and Firefox Lead: Meet the heroes—@Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari. Apple kicked off the privacy party in 2015, and by 2017, they bid adieu to third-party cookies with Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP). Firefox joined in 2019 with Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP), saying no to third-party cookies by default. It's all about shouting, "User privacy, we got your back!," and Kikou supports privacy and freedom on the internet!! 📆 Countdown to Change: Guess who joined the squad in 2020? Google Chrome! Brace yourself for 2024 when Chrome waves bye-bye to third-party cookies. It's a nod to a world craving a more private, user-focused web. In a nutshell, the shift isn't a goodbye; it's a step towards a safer, transparent, and personalized digital tomorrow. 🚀 #PrivacyUpgrade #ByeCookies

Google's plan to implement a two-hop proxy in Google Chrome, aimed at safeguarding user privacy, is set to shake up the advertising sector with far-reaching consequences for advertisers 🔍💡📊 By using a proxy, Chrome limits advertisers to Google-designated regions, which could reduce ad accuracy. In addition, Chrome's proxy masks user identities, making it hard to distinguish genuine users from bots. Additionally, Google gets exclusive access to location data through its two-hop proxy, creating a monopoly in the search ad space and potentially removing competition. In addition to protecting data from advertisers, this initiative doesn't necessarily protect it from Google. In addition, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) have expressed concerns about Google's privacy initiatives, especially the Privacy Sandbox. 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰 〰〰 〰 〰 💫 Read more on Clickwire’s blog to stay informed about the latest developments in the digital marketing industry and the tech world: https://clickwire.io/blog #clickwire #IPadress #IPmasking #googlechrome #cma #ico #IPmasking #securitydata #dataprivacy #searchengine #searchexperience #googleupdates #digitaladvertising #CompetitionsMarketAuthority #GoogleTwoHopProxy #SearchAdvertisingPrivacy #GoogleChromePrivacy #UserPrivacyProtection #OnlinePrivacy #CMAandICO

Chrome's phase out of third-party cookies has been delayed so many times, its become something of a joke within the industry. However, with the release of Chrome 115 in July, all signs say that 2024 really will mark a cookieless future. Privacy Sandbox's Victor Wong seems optimistic though, highlighting that, while there will be challenges, marketers are already beginning to adapt. #DigitalMarketing #Cookieless #ThirdPartyCookies

Google has begun to phase out web tracking cookies as the next step in a long process to remove tracking cookies completely from the search engine. Users will be offered a 'tracking protection' function, restricting the Chrome browser from sharing their data when on a website. Whilst this has currently only been rolled out to 1% of Chrome users, it will eventually expand so that third-party cookies for all will be completely removed by the second half of this year as per the company's Privacy Sandbox initiative. https://loom.ly/MCsCDLk #Google #ThirdPartyCookies #Cookies
