🚀 Creative Operations Insights #7 🚀 I have often wondered which of the following roles I am most suited to: 📈Project manager 🗣️Producer 🏗️Production coordinator 🛠️Operations manager In my head these are all “Creatove Operations” jobs. Over my career so far I have undertaken all of these roles multiple times and I think I have finally begun to understand the key differences between them all. 📈From my work at Mrs Wordsmith, I saw that a project manager turns someone else’s idea into a sequence of actionable steps and then helps to coordinate those tasks and keep them on track. They deliver the output they were commissioned to project manage. 🗣️From my work with The Cambridge Impronauts I saw that a producer does what a project manager does but with creative projects and frequently acts as the project sponsor in addition to the day-to-day manager of work. This means they are often the ones who commission the project as well as the ones who help organise it. 🏗️From my work alongside Scribble Room Animation, I saw that Production coordinators focus on the planning, scheduling and execution of the “production” phase of a project. They may work under a project manager or producer and their task is to coordinate the many parts that come together to make the ‘output’. 🛠️Finally, from my work at Up Learn I saw that Operations Managers are the only role to not work on a “project by project basis”. They take on a more permanent position within an organisation and try to set up standardised processes and tools to empower the other roles to do their work in a faster or more robust way. 🕵🏻♂️So which is the job for me? Turns out I can’t quite decide and I think that’s okay! … I realise that in every job I’ve had I have continued to take on elements of each of these titles as what I love most of all is responsibility and variety in my work! 😍This leads me to work with a huge array of people from creatives to accountants and grow my network. It allows me to have the greatest impact possible on an organisation and it means I am always pushing myself to learn more and more. Now that’s job satisfaction. #whoami #creativeoperations #manyhats #projectmanagement #producer #productionmanagement #operationsmanager

PSA: For those looking to hire that may not instantly understand why a TV Producer has applied for your job, or why they may be a great fit for ANY team... It is our job to dive into an unknown world, and instantly become well-versed in what makes that world tick. We learn on the fly, and are experts at being professional about it. We tend to wear many hats, and that's not a bad thing! <I'd like to change it to jack of all trades, and (very quickly) mastering them all ;)> We oftentimes are both right and left-brained - advising on creative in one minute, then overseeing budgets or schedules the next. We can juggle a lot, like a lot a lot. (We often work in skeleton crews and have to pick up the slack as needed. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork) Our world hasn't exactly been happening this past year...and it's rough out there. So if you're looking for the most dedicated, loyal, go-getters... I challenge you to interview some TV Producers...Even if you don't immediately recognize the connection between the job posting and their resumes. #TVProducer #TVProduction #ProjectManager #ProgramManager #ProductManager #ITProjectManager #ConstructionProjectManager #MarketingProjectManager #EventManager #ScrumMaster #AgileProjectManager #OperationsManager #Recruiters

Good brief / bad brief is brief a part of project that should be ready before hiring/ involving project managers? Are project managers creating or filling out gaps in briefs based on requests coming from other department or are briefs finalised before reaching creatives? Is insufficient brief a red flag or ask for help? What’s your experience, guys? Any crazy brief stories…? #brief #creative #project #projectmanager #management

Executive Producer | Culture Marketing | Anime | Gaming | Music | Helping brands connect with new audiences through seamless production & anime ✨
I often get asked, “what does a producer do?”. It’s my favourite question as it opens a platform for a long conversation. On any given day a producer is: ✅ A project manager (the obvious) ✅ A CEO (managing a team of talented individuals working on solving a business problem within a set budget with the aim of delivering stellar service and making profit) ✅ An HR partner (looking for the best talent to execute the vision) ✅ An accountant (budgets, burns, reports, margins) ✅ An engineer (problem-solving and looking for solutions) ✅ A travel agent (we all did this at some point in our career, let’s be honest) ✅ A creative sparring partner ✅ A sales rep ✅ A business developer ✅ A strategist ✅ A therapist ... This list can go on and on and on. So why am I sharing this? Two reasons: -> A kind reminder to respect your producer as they are likely doing their damn best for your vision and work to come true and succeed. -> If you ever wonder whether to hire a producer (for any role), you won’t find a more versatile, more curious, and fast learning individual out there. So go for it! What other 🎩 do fellow producers wear? Curious to hear your thoughts in the comments. #producer #producerlife #production
