The next ERCIS Lunchtime Seminar will be held on October 31st. Speaker Dr. Wolfgang Ketter will talk about: “Toward Sustainable Electricity Markets: Capacity-Based Pricing for Electric Vehicle Smart Charging”. In this seminar, Dr. Wolfgang Ketter presents a novel IS-enabled pricing artifact for variable-rate electric vehicle (EV) charging that can facilitate a sustainable “EV” introduction. “EVs” can significantly reduce carbon intensity in modern cities and address important sustainability challenges. However, large-scale “EV” introduction is expected to lead to an increase in electricity demand peaks, threatening grid stability and reliability. To address this issue, Dr. Wolfgang Ketter suggests a capacity-based pricing artifact that includes a dynamic, charging-rate-based price component and a set of price-setting methods based on analytical or computational heuristics. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ketter is professor of Information Systems and Director of the Cologne Institute of Information Systems at the University of Cologne. His research focuses around the exploration of how digital transformation can facilitate a faster and more resilient transition to sustainable energy and mobility. He is also professor and director at Erasmus University and energy policy advisor to the German government. The seminar will take place from 12:30-01:15 pm in the Leo 18 lecture hall and is open to everyone who is interested.

Professor Fei Gao, University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM) together with Pit Losch, PhD (Ministère de l'Energie et de l'Aménagement du Territoire) and Samuel Simon Araya in the roundtable around the topic "Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles: state of the art and perspectives in the context of the clean energy transition" during the lecture series "Enabling technologies for the #cleanenergy transition" organized by Pedro Rodriguez of the Environmental Research and Innovation department of the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). 💡 Industry & Science News 💡Ruhr-Universität Bochum is participating in a new EU-funded project called "COREu - CO2 Routes Across Europe". The aim of the project is to research ways of developing and expanding carbon capture and storage (#CCS) infrastructures. Under the leadership of the Norwegian SINTEF Energy Research, 43 partners from industry and research are working on designing and demonstrating the entire chain from #CO2 capture to storage. The European Commission is supporting this project with around 30 million euros, of which around 400,000 euros will go to Ruhr-Universität Bochum. ➡️ Novel encapsulation and backsheet films for extreme longevity of photovoltaic modules ☀️. ⬅️ The quality and processing of the film and encapsulation materials play a significant role in the performance of a solar module. Together with partners, the #FraunhoferCSP is investigating in a project novel encapsulation and backsheet films for PV modules that are expected to have a service life of at least 40 years. The project "Folie40" has a duration of three years and is funded in the 7th Energy Research Framework Program of the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz.
