As Hurricane Beryl cut a path across the southern Carribbean over the end of June and first part of July, meteorologists and researchers from the University at Albany, Weather Underground, University of Miami, and MIT watched the storm break with norms and perhaps set a precedent for one of the deadliest, most severe hurricane seasons since 2005 – the year of Hurricanes Katrina, Wilma, Dennis, and Rita. Especially sea surface temperatures and the presence of La Nina were cited as contributing factors, but all the experts agree, seeing a storm like Beryl form in June does not bode well for the next few months.
