In January, I got unexpectedly laid off from Sport Clips as a contractor while they were acting like they were going to offer me a full time job. I went 5 months looking for the right job. I had one I thought I was going to get, but the interviewer apparently didn't like my choice of pants according to his feedback. (I was in fact, wearing pants at least!)
About a week after that I had 3 interviews that went well. 1 was back at Spectrum in their NOC, another was a contract job for a NOC, and the 3rd was my current role at IT Voice. You can guess which job I went for.
Spectrum never got back to, even to this day I have not received an update. The other NOC job was about a month too late getting back to me. IT Voice I was interviewed, hired, and working in under a week. What a difference a good manager makes is all I can say!
I am glad I ended in this role too. It is very hands on, I am learning a lot, and other IT tech employees at all knowledge levels and roles are always available to answer questions and assist. No bureaucracy just to be able to talk to someone else to get a customer quick help. I have learned more in the last 3 months here than I have learned in years at previous jobs.
I guess my take away from this is that even though things may not work out the way you had hoped for, sometimes, in the end, it works out in the best way for you. Know your worth and don't give up!
