First, find the power source to that panel or entire building, shut off all sources of power, and announce the installation of lockout / tagout. Verify a zero energy state and start demo. Install the new equipment, conduit, pull wire, etc., and complete installation. Announce removal of lockout / tagout, energize, and test new equipment while protected with the proper PPE according to preplanning and arc flash calculations. The pictured work can be performed safely, however my recommendations are a simplified overview.
Electricians! You get a call to replace this 1970s breaker. After eyeballing it, what do you do? 1. Say to the owner, with a sigh, “this is gonna be a big job.” 2. Recommend another electrician whom you don’t like. 3. Wait for it to self-ignite. It will be easier to replace after a big fire.
