As the world continues to transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, solar innovation provides new opportunities for energy storage and distribution ☀️ A recent case study by Canyon Solar found that a growing trend amongst retail, mainly supermarkets, was the installation of solar canopies on top of car parks for renewable energy, car shade, and EV charging. This helps cut costs and emissions effectively. Recently, Breathe hosted a presentation to shed light on the built environment’s 37% contribution to global carbon emissions - and what can be done to reduce this shocking statistic. With building operations responsible for 27% of those emissions, Jeremy McLeod highlighted three effective steps to achieve zero operational carbon emissions in building projects. Step 1: Electrify Everything Replace the need for gas by utilising induction cooking (which is 40% more efficient), heat pumps for hot water and AC for heating and cooling. As well as investing in solar power, electric vehicle infrastructure such as charging stations, and battery storage. Step 2: Use 100% Renewables Maximise your on-site solar in addition to purchasing certified GreenPower. A great solution to committing a residential building to buy 100% GreenPower is to implement an embedded energy network, such as SUPA: Smart Urban Properties Australia. SUPA will invest the capital into renewable infrastructure, removing upfront costs for developers and providing affordable green energy prices to occupiers. Step 3: Certification  Write GreenPower and annual carbon audits into Owners Corporations rules using our provided template. You can watch a highlights compilation of the presentation below.

In parallel, Swindon Borough Council's commitment to sustainability extends to transportation with plans to invest in 600 electric vehicle charging points across the town. Our Sustainability and Mobility Department was honored today for its innovative Zero Emissions Municipal Buildings and Operations Policy (ZEMBOP) at the 2024 Better Buildings, Better Plants Summit in Washington, D.C. The City received the Better Practice Award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This competitive nationwide award recognizes #SanDiego’s success in implementing energy efficiency and decarbonization practices: https://lnkd.in/gsuB_K7W San Diego’s ZEMBOP project was selected for its efforts to meet the City’s ambitious #ClimateActionPlan targets. Among them, the City has: 🔹 Established a goal of zero emissions in all municipal buildings by 2035. 🔹 Set a target to remove natural gas from 50% of municipal facilities by 2030 and all municipal facilities by 2035. 🔹 Made plans to transition all of its municipal fleet vehicles to zero emissions vehicles by 2035.

The Wendy's Company is partnering with Ampion, PBC. to source clean energy and reduce carbon emissions across its U.S. restaurants and franchises. Nearly 140 locations in New York, Massachusetts, and Illinois have enrolled in Ampion’s “Ampion ” clean energy offering. This collaboration will allow Wendy’s locations to source 30% to 100% of their energy from #solarpower without needing to install on-site panels. This initiative is part of Wendy’s broader sustainability goals, aiming to cut scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 47% by 2030.
