Reliability Engineer |Fixed Plant Maintenance Planner & Strategist| Asset Management | Certified Reliability Professional | Engineering Management | Leadership
Are you looking to improve your fixed plant operational maintenance? Prioritizing maintenance tasks is key to supporting reliability. Non-critical equipment or unlikely failures shouldn't be as high priority as those involving critical assets. Focus preventive maintenance efforts towards reducing failures that represent significant risks to your operations. When it comes to maintenance planning, keep in mind that it's not just about setting a schedule. A maintenance planner should be out on-site, fully aware of potential issues that could complicate the job. Access or safety problems could arise, so having someone who understands planning principles and has ordered thinking and communication skills is crucial. If you're ready to hire a planner or evaluate your current planning position, consider these critical characteristics: experience, understanding of planning principles, being a people person, and having ordered thinking and communication skills. Don't underestimate the importance of having the right person in this role.

Days ago I´ve shared with you the 6 maintenance planning principles for Success in planning & scheduling. Now let's discover how it's supposed to be for the 1º principle. 1. A Separate Department for Planners Protecting the planner Planners need to be removed from the maintenance crews and put into separate groups to facilitate specialized planning techniques and focus on future work. By removing planners from the maintenance crew for which they plan and having them report to a different supervisor, the planning function is protected. As difficult as it may be at times, planners should never be used as field technicians to help complete work, so they can focus solely on planning for future work.

Inefficiencies in resource planning are a silent profit killer in field service operations. 😱 Missed schedules, underutilized technicians, and equipment dispatch delays all lead to dissatisfied customers and mounting operational costs. Are your technicians constantly overbooked or sitting idle? Is your team wasting time and resources on unnecessary trips due to poor scheduling or lack of tools at the job site? These issues don't just cost time—they damage your reputation and hurt your bottom line. With advanced resource planning tools like FieldEquip, you can optimize technician scheduling, ensure equipment readiness, and respond to dynamic job demands with minimal effort. 🔗 https://buff.ly/3BmLgGR #FieldService #ResourcePlanning #TechnicianScheduling #PlantManagement #FieldEquip

Emergency or Breakdown Maintenance is expensive. And that’s because… →it doesn't get planned properly. →it doesn't get scheduled properly. →you spend more time running around chasing parts. It should be avoided at all costs! But many plants around the world have 30-40% emergency maintenance! Whereas well-run plants only have <10% emergency maintenance. There are 3 main reasons for this: 1️⃣ Leaders allow this to happen. By agreeing to all this break-in work, they in effect, agree to working in chaos, and paying 3-5 times more than they should. 2️⃣Nobody truly owns the schedule. Nobody says “NO” to the many schedule breakers. All it needs is for someone with a bit of clout to ask “WHY?”. WHY is this job so urgent that it can’t wait till next week, so our planner can organise all the parts and the scheduler can fit it in with the other work? Truth is, it rarely is that urgent. 3️⃣It is an issue of prioritisation. You need an objective approach like the RIME or RAM to prioritise which tasks get done first. You don’t do the job just because someone shouts the loudest, or someone insists this job is a high-priority emergency. To break that cycle of reactive, emergency maintenance you need to ask WHY, say NO, and use a more objective prioritisation tool so the discussions around WHY are risk-based, fact-driven, and you get rid of the emotional priorities that plague so many operations and maintenance teams around the world. #MaintenanceEngineering #processsafety #assetintegrity #assetmanagement #safety #maintenance #maintenancemanagement #maintenanceengineering #maintenancemanager #reliability #reliabilityengineering #reliabilitycenteredmaintenance #engineering #engineeringexcellence #process #operation #operationalexcellence #operationsmanager #operationandmaintenance
