What truly bothers me is why the cost of PMS & exchange rates will remain high with the functioning of the refinery. I thought the combination of domestic consumption, domicillation of a refinery in Nigeria & possibility of dual currency (NGN & USD) transaction with Dangote could have reduced our pains

On Monday, June 3rd, 2024, the Harvard Business School Association of Nigeria (HBSAN) quarterly discourse was held in Lagos. The Executive Chairman of AA Holdings, Mr. Austin Avuru, delivered a keynote paper on the theme: “Exits, Divestments, and New Players: The Future of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry in the Hands of Indigenous Players.” From a regulatory point of view, Mr. Avuru emphasized the need for proper management in the transition from International Oil Companies (IOCs) to independent operators in Nigeria's oil and gas sector. He highlighted the challenges and opportunities presented by this significant shift, noting that the ongoing divestment by IOCs from onshore and shallow water assets is reshaping the sector. Mr. Avuru stressed that this transition must be managed effectively to ensure sustainable growth and stability. I might be wrong, but I think that as an exclusive buyer, NNPCL wants to control prices and protect other refineries and interests as well. They are concerned that Dangote might become too dominant, as it is undeniably the largest refinery in Nigeria currently.
