For more than 10,000 Olympic athletes, making it to Paris this summer is a dream come true. Thousands of potential tourists feel otherwise. Delta says travelers avoiding Paris will cost it $100 million this summer as they pick other destinations. Partner airline Air France-KLM is expecting a ~$195M hit June through August. Room rates are skyrocketing in Paris, too, according to STR. Europe travel demand is strong otherwise this summer and Delta execs said travelers are extending the U.S.-Europe travel season even into November, when it's cooler and not as crowded. https://lnkd.in/emvsMsXE

Summer transatlantic air travel is looking good for airlines again this year, even with fares and yields off of last summer's heady highs. Data from Hopper shows average U.S.-Europe fares are down 10% from last year but up 10% from 2019. And that’s with seats up 8% y/y, according to Cirium. New routes include Air France to Paris-Phoenix; American Airlines Philadelphia to Copenhagen, Naples, and Nice; and Swiss International Air Lines Zurich-Washington. Travelers can still find deals. Even to Paris where the 2024 Olympics will take place in late July and early August. “Paris will be like an Olympic village in July and August,” French bee CEO Christine Ourmières-Widener FREng FRAes said. She insisted that travelers can still find affordable airfares — though hotels in Paris may be another matter. Read more on The Washington Post. #airlines #travel

Take a few minutes to listen to this! We have exactly the same problems in America as they do in Australia, and the solutions seem to be summarized quite well by a man who is supposed to be running a union and not the airline?? We have exactly the same issues confronting ATC shortages, barriers to entry for new pilots (cost) and outsourcing of skilled services diminishing quality of worker and employee loyalty. A really good interview. #atcshortage #pilotshortage #leadership
