SYSTRA has been shortlisted for the Global Light Rail Awards 2023 in the Vision of the Year category! 🌟 The Vision of the Year category seeks out the best ideas in the urban transportation sector, and SYSTRA was shortlisted for its work on the Bologna tram network project - a placemaking vision in the heart of historic Italy. The project envisages not only construction of the infrastructure with innovative features, but also the redevelopment of many areas of the city adjacent to the tramway, new traffic solutions and the creation of new cycle paths for the purpose of increasingly integrated and sustainable mobility. We used lessons learned from tramways we have delivered across other historic cities to inform a façade-to-façade approach, creating spaces which encourage walking, cycling and socialising, bringing energy and cohesiveness into the shared public spaces connected by public transportation. The $1.4 billion Midfield Satellite Concourse South project at the Los Angeles International Airport - LAX is being built with a unique offsite construction technique. City of Chicago-based W.E. O'Neil Construction is the contractor for the new two-story, eight-gate complex, which broke ground on June 28. The expansion entails adding eight new gates in an accelerated timeline at Terminal B, airport authority Los Angeles World Airports said in a news release. It is the latest part of LAX’s $15 billion capital improvement program, and will bolster capacity in advance of the 2026 World Cup and 2028 Olympic Games. Prior to its recent redesign, Gatwick Airport station was described in a 2018 poll by Transport Focus as “small” and “cramped”. In fact, it was ranked as the 2nd least popular station in Britain! 😬 In 2016 we were appointed as lead design organisation by Costain Group PLC on GRIP Stages 2-4 ‘design and build works’ for the project. Our experts were responsible for providing architectural, structural and civil engineering services (including highways, drainage and environmental design). Our 3 key goals were clear: 🦺 Improving safety 🔼 Increasing capacity 😊 Transforming the passenger experience The programme of improvements created more space, relieving overcrowding, and improving the circulation of passengers entering and leaving the station. The new design also provided a more integrated concourse with an intuitive connection between the station, the airport terminals and with onward travel. [Project 🎬] Revolutionizing urban infrastructure with the 'City upon the City' approach in Paris' 13th arrondissement, setting new standards for urban connectivity and resilience 👇 In an increasingly constrained land environment, infrastructure must constantly evolve to ensure the connectivity and resilience of urban areas. Building the "City upon the City" requires the implementation of new construction methods that minimise the impact on the City and on existing transport routes. In the 13th arrondissement of Paris, our Egis teams are working with Compagnie de Phalsbourg on the construction of a slab above the tracks at Gare d'Austerlitz, which will help sew up the city and accommodate two hotel buildings. Miami International Airport will add six passenger gates in a new Concourse K beside the South Terminal under a four-year, $621 million contract with a firm that is to design and build the project within four years, according to a just-released call for services. Marking the start of construction works, the cornerstone has been laid at the site of the new Ülemiste Passenger Terminal in #Tallinn.

A multi-modal transport hub for the city’s commuters as well as international rail passengers and air travellers using the adjacent Tallinn Airport, the Ülemiste Passenger Terminal is designed as a connecting bridge linking together districts of Tallinn currently separated by the railway tracks that disect the city. Opening in 2028, Tallinn’s Ülemiste terminal will be the northern terminus of the new 870-kilometre Rail Baltica electrified railway now under-construction. Providing passenger services at speeds up to 249km/h, Rail Baltica will connect Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with the European high-speed rail network in Poland.

#ZahaHadidArchitects developed the design with leading Estonian architecture & engineering firm Esplan. Circulation routes through the terminal have determined the station’s spatial geometry to aid navigation and the seamless integration of the city’s bus, tram, rail and cycle networks that intersect at the terminus.

Incorporating a modular structural system built in phases to enable ongoing operations on the rail lines throughout construction, the terminal has been designed and planned to BREEAM benchmarks and guidelines.
