Our Director of Structures and Civil Engineering, Christian Gilbert, led a fascinating lecture yesterday evening in London on behalf of the British Tunnelling Society, an associated society of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). 🗣️ Christian’s lecture ‘Artificial Ground Freezing; a versatile solution for water tightness and temporary soil structure’, discussed the ground freezing process and associated techniques, using Metro Line 14 Clichy Saint-Ouen in Paris as a case study of its application. A review of the main design parameters, as well as basic rules of thumbs, were also discussed. ❄️ Christian, who joined SYSTRA 10 years ago as VP of Structures and Civils, showcased his extensive education, technical expertise and vast amount of experience during the lecture. Over the years, Christian has published more than 30 technical articles on a large variety of subjects including rock stability, diaphragm wall projects, rigid inclusions and soil dynamic behaviour. 🧠 💡 The lecture was extremely insightful and innovative to say the least! The Philippines is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area in the Pacific Ocean where many volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur which is why around 20 earthquakes are experienced per day in the country. Earthquake resilience starts with sound engineering design. #talktous #earthquakeresilientinfrastructure #structuresdesignandengineering
Is your building earthquake-proof? It is good to see the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering / La Société canadienne de génie civil publication promoting #masstimber as a #renewable structural material for #civilengineering. See page 09 for the article written by Josh Woods, PhD PEng from Queen's University's Civil Engineering Department. There has been a significant increase in the adoption of mass timber in the vertical building sector, which was also dominated by concrete and steel since the late 19th century. There will therefore be pockets of opportunity in the civil infrastructure sector for #engineeredwood #technology Thanks for highlighting MTC Solutions. ____ ✅🔔 If you appreciate our posts, please follow, like, or share for more. #structuralengineering
Choosing your mass timber connection hardware last-minute? No! 🙅 Featured on the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering / La Société canadienne de génie civil's CIVIL magazine, our article explains why (and how) connection hardware makes a crucial part of a mass timber structure and should be planned for in the design phase. Involving an experienced supplier like us early on in the process ensures that the proper connection solution is perfectly embedded in the structural design, avoiding potential costly later-stage adjustments, and that all performance objectives are met (we can even help you with the calculations 😄).
