I PLEDGE my HEAD to clearer thinking, my HEART to greater loyalty, my HANDS to larger service, and my HEALTH to better living, for my family, my club, my community, my country and my world. This is the 4-H Pledge that youth and adults recite at the opening of each meeting. In the spirit of that pledge to clearer thinking, we ask “is there a future for 4-H in Sherburne County?” Last summer, the 4-H horse project funded and painted the barns to freshen them up for fair. Imagine the disappointment as everything the kids worked to prepare for was deluged with rain through the failing roofs on the horse barns as several waves of extreme weather occurred during fair week. The normal flurry of excitement was replaced with an all-out scramble to shift horses to higher ground and wait out the storm while also scrambling to save thousands of dollars’ worth of hay, feed, show clothes, tack and equipment. This is one of many issues that need to be addressed to deal with aging infrastructure and the future of the county fairgrounds. The county has indicated at various times the desire to sell and redevelop the property the fairground occupies. That constant fear of being evicted from the fairgrounds has not served the best interests of the youth or the community at large. Sherburne County businesses and residents are overwhelmingly supportive of 4-H programming when made aware of needs and how they can help. But who will invest in updating and improving the aging infrastructure of a fairgrounds under constant threat of eviction and redevelopment of the property? If the long-range plan is to relocate the fairgrounds, then please, let us begin the dialogue to plan out a timeline and details for beginning that endeavor. We need to at least work together to solve the immediate issues to serve our youth of today as well as plan for the future of our youth. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Please, let us not fail our youth any longer. ~ Families of Sherburne County 4-H Note: this letter was sent to all Sherburne County commissioners. The purpose of this post is to raise awareness of safety issues at the Sherburne County fairgrounds. The video captures the July 22, 2023 storm at the county fair and a failing roof leaking into one of the tack/hay stalls. #safety #4H #fair #itsforthekids #horses Please contact your Sherburne County representative and let them know action is needed https://lnkd.in/gcwtPM3J

ICYMI: "The program also includes a generous incentive of up to $9,000 for a new EV lease, or up to $2,500 off a used EV lease. The maximum incentive is available for leases on a three-year term, or longer. People earning 300% or below of the federal poverty level are eligible for the program’s incentives. That works out to earnings of less than $45,180 annually for a single person or less than $93,600 for a family of four. The program will run through June 2025 or until funds run out." https://lnkd.in/g9Wqe7qi
Today was a beautiful day in the PNW. Luckily, I spent most of it outdoors helping to pull together a media event for the launch of Washington's new EV incentive programs.

🌀 CYCLONE JASPER, HOLD MY BEER... 🍺 Having just arrived home in Sydney from the TC Jasper emergency response in Cairns, a storm supercell hit SEQLD on Christmas/Boxing Day 2023. This storm supercell caused damage such that had never been seen before and it continued to spread its wrath over the coming days, travelling all the way up the coast of QLD reaching Rockhampton and Mackay just in time for the New Year. The challenge again was to form and coordinate a TVH emergency response team to assist with the restoration of the telecommunications network in what was now an area spanning from Northern NSW all the way up to Rockhampton/Mackay. We mobilised on Boxing Day to Beenleigh, right in the heart of the damage in SEQLD. Once again, the TVH team came from every direction to assist; some travelling thousands of kilometres, some coming back online from annual leave and others supporting from interstate to provide 24/7 support to the ground control team. A few key facts and figures relating to this emergency response effort: ✅️ 500 tickets of work completed 🌍 Area spanned from Northern NSW (south) to Mackay (north) to Barcaldine and Roma (west) to the QLD coast (east) ⚡️65 generators installed ⛽️ Daily refuels to keep generators operating Whilst in transit back home last night there was one word that I just couldn't get out of my mind - purpose. What has been achieved over the last 21 days hasn’t been a job, it has been a purpose. You can see those who engage for the job (normally $$$ focused) and those who engage for the purpose. With that in mind, a massive shout out goes to my partners in crime: Douglas Lamac Grant Schultz Scott Stewart Jaycee K. Bridget Nastasi James Korfias - da Cunha and Rhonda David. To all the ground crew who delivered the physical and at times tiresome work, thank you 😊. What has been achieved over the past 21 days is nothing short of amazing. There is no doubt that over the past 21 days our purpose has been to save lives - and that's what we have achieved. Lots to reflect on and learn from this one - What’s your purpose for 2024? #mymanifestationboard
