We will be running a two-hour delay schedule TOMORROW, January 17. This decision has been made because the vast majority of surrounding districts, that provide daily transportation for about a third of our students, have called two-hour delays, which adjusts their transportation of our students. With that, students should report by 10:00 a.m. (first bell) and be in 1st period by 10:03 a.m. The schedule for the day will be: First Bell: 10:00 a.m. Period 1 - 10:03-10:34 Period 2 - 10:37-11:07 Period 4 - 11:10-11:40 Period 5 - 11:43-12:13 p.m. Period 6 - 12:16-12:46 Period 3 - 12:49-1:19 Period 7 - 1:22-1:52 Period 8 - 1:55-2:25 Period 9 - 2:28-2:58 Gannon dual enrollment students should follow instructions from the university, but they may report to campus earlier and remain in the Salata Technology & Innovation Center until their classes at Prep begin. If students cannot make it in for the day because of the weather, or any other reasons, please communicate that to the Main Office as usual at [email protected] or (814) 453-7737, Ext. 2222 or Ext. 2221. #Prep ❄️

#PhDAdvice - Aka How to Stay Focused Here's some advice from my wonderful and very patient supervisor, Professor Murray Saunders, that's just too good not to share. Here's the metaphor - studying towards a PhD is like driving along the motorway. It's tempting to veer off, exploring a lot of the interesting towns and villages that are dotted along the way. But the important thing to remember is that they'll always be there for future visits. In Murray's words, you just need to "Keep on the motorway". But, here's the problem, I find anything to do with #newuniversities, #challengeruniversities, #onlinehighereducation and #TechnologyEnhancedLearning generally, incredibly interesting and worthy of study. And I've found it tough (or, rather, impossible) not to take minor, and sometimes fairly major detours. This has ended up with him updating his advice to "Stick to the M6 (the motorway that runs past Lancaster University) and don't suddenly start driving down the M1." So, public commitment time. This is the year I'm going to properly start listening to his advice. The M6 might be the longest motorway in the UK. And it might have the infamous "spaghetti junction" - just saying. But it's the M6 for me all the way, now. Anyone I should be following that posts good advice for PhD students?

What does it mean to be together, in community, in the shared space of a university or college campus? Why and how does the bricks-and-mortar campus still matter in this age of hybrid and online possibilities for higher education? I've been asking myself (and others) this question since we returned to campus following the shut-down caused the Covid-19 pandemic. I hope you'll take a minute to read my reflections on the question, "What's a Campus For?" https://lnkd.in/g7gAbp4r
