Join the National Center on Parent, Family, and Community Engagement for the first webinar in the series “Building Our Understanding About LGBTQIA2S Communities” on Thursday, September 21 at 3:00 PM ET. Every day Head Start leaders, managers, staff, and parent leaders work to ensure that families feel welcome in their programs. Join this four-part webinar series about fostering the most accepting and inclusive Head Start and Early Head Start environments for LGBTQIA2S parents, families, and colleagues. LGBTQIA2S is an acronym for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, or additional sexual orientations and gender identities that are not heterosexual or cisgender. This series focuses on key terms, biases, and facts; program planning for Head Start staff; building trusting and respectful relationships; and celebrating the lived experiences of LGBTQI2AS parents, families, and staff. In this first webinar, we’re establishing a common understanding of language and building a shared commitment to supporting and welcoming LGBTQIA2S parents, families, and staff. Facilitators provide opportunities for knowledge-building, discussion, and self-reflection. Learn more & register:

Facing proper healthcare needs is still a challenge for many LGBTQIA individuals in our society. That's where HEAL plus NM: Health Equity Alliance for LGBTQ New Mexicans steps in - addressing the roots of health inequality through education, advocacy, and messaging. Their partnerships with healthcare systems, public health institutions, and passionate organizations have paved a path for justice by contradicting institutional oppression and societal norms. As Pride Month is upon us, consider giving a helping hand to HEAL NM, supporting a cause that provides LGBTQIA friendly directories, valuable resources, and communities that prioritize their health. We love celebrating Pride Month! However, it is important to remember a few things as we celebrate : Disabled individuals still don’t have marriage equality. Most Pride events are inaccessible. Disabled trans individuals exist. Trans men are men. Trans women are women. photo courtesy: Disabled and Here collection [Image description: An orange gradient background with white text that is centered. The NAMED Advocates logo is in the top right. The text reads: Happy Pride Month! The image centered at the bottom is of three Black and disabled folx decked out happily in rainbow pride flags. On the left, a non-binary person holds a cane in one hand and waves a mini flag in the other. In the middle, a non-binary person sits in their power wheelchair, draped in a large flag. On the right, a femme rests one hand on their friend's shoulder and waves a mini flag around with the other hand.] #PrideMonth #PrideIsIntersectional #MakePrideAccessible #NAMEDAdvocates #DisabilityJustice #DisabilityRights #BIPOC #BlackThoughtLeaders #Accessibility #Advocate #DisabilityAdvocate #DisabilityAwareness #DisabledAndProud

Financial Planning for Women & LGBTQIA Doctors | Veterinarians | Attorneys & Business Owners. Together we are Planning For Good!
"The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members" - Mahatma Gandhi "Most of the new state laws have focused attention on trans youth, with at least 22 states banning or restricting gender-affirming care for minors. For many transgender seniors, it's brought new fears to their plans for retirement and old age. Transgender adults say they're worried about finding welcoming spaces to live in their later years. Discrimination can range from being denied housing to being misgendered and struggling to get nursing homes to acknowledge their visitation rights. About 171,000 of the more than 1.3 million transgender adults in the United States are aged 65 and older. The growing population has brought more services such as nursing homes and assisted living centers that are geared toward serving the LGBTQ community, though such facilities remain uncommon. They include Stonewall Gardens, a 24-apartment assisted living center that opened in Palm Springs, California in 2015." And opening this month, GenPride will be moving into Pride Place (https://lnkd.in/gYuuEAJk). To help meet these needs, we also need donations to not only open the doors but to keep these centers open and operating. We have received 84% of our capital campaign goal of $5M. This is the way we help the most vulnerable in our community! Full disclosure: I sit on the Board of GenPride https://lnkd.in/gSR3mbBV
