In light of Indonesia's decision to revise its renewable energy target from 23% to around 17-19% by 2025, it raises significant concerns about this nation's commitment to clean energy. Is this adjustment a recognition of ‘realistic actionable goals’, or is it, as the media likes to call it, simply a case of “cutting back”? The government's acknowledgment of continuously missing its renewable energy targets over the past decade is not just a reflection of realism; it underscores a lack of robust commitment and decisive action. While realism is a valid standpoint, is it right to use it in justifying lower targets? There is no question that you cannot carelessly lead the country towards poverty in the dream for renewable energy, nor can you increase energy costs and risk businesses ability to compete, and in turn risking jobs that are very much needed here in Indonesia.  But the slow pace of renewable projects and the lack of open bidding, coupled with unattractive pricing for investors, are hindering progress. The intertwining of manufacturing policy with renewable development also slows down the transition. The government must realise that a sluggish renewable development will likely hurt in the long run. Engaging in dialogue and discussions with the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia), Bapak Anindya Novyan Bakrie, in an event organized by Repnas Indonesia Maju discussing the polemic between LFP and Nickel, held at the Repnas Office, Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta. For me, Bapak Anindya Novyan Bakrie is one of the entrepreneur role models who has a high awareness of the potential of renewable energy in Indonesia. Indonesia actually has a lot of potential that can be a high bargaining power to the world, as long as everything can be managed well. It also requires synergy between the government and the private sector to capture the available potential and the problems that will be faced. Collaboration between stakeholders is essential for sustainable development and to address the challenges ahead. Each entity needs to contribute its share for the advancement of the nation. By utilizing these natural resources, Indonesia can increase its self-sufficiency in energy production, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and alleviate the burden of fossil fuel imports on the national budget. Moreover, investment in renewable energy also creates new opportunities for economic growth and job creation. In addition to the economic benefits, the use of renewable energy also contributes to environmental preservation and mitigates the negative impacts of climate change, which are increasingly urgent to address globally. Therefore, the development of renewable energy is not only a short-term strategy to meet energy needs but also a long-term investment for Indonesia's sustainable future.

With only two years to go, how can we achieve Indonesia's clean energy ambitions? At the G20 Bali Summit 2022, the energy transition issue became one of the most discussed issues, which resulted in the Leaders' agreement stating the importance of achieving net zero emissions by 2060 and achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7, which is affordable and clean energy for all.[1] What can New & Renewable Energy (NRE) independent power Producer (IPP) companies do to improve their chance to access green funding? One of the ways is by improving the company's compliance with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) aspects towards national and international ESG standards.
